    I updated today from 2.3. to 2.5.1.

    I did all these steps:
    # Unzip the package in an empty directory.
    # Open up wp-config-sample.php with a text editor like WordPad or similar and fill in your database connection details.
    # Save the file as wp-config.php
    # Upload everything.
    # Point your browser to /wp-admin/upgrade.php.

But now it’s like I have a completely new blog. I can’t log-in (the log-in does not even recognize my e-mail adress), there are no postings, my headline is also removed. I’m sure I put the right things into the wp-config.php. So what should I do now?

    Thanks
    Excuse my bad English

  • Sounds like you didn’t put the right settings in wp-config.php.

In particular, make sure you have the right prefix specified.

You could use a tool like phpMyAdmin to look at what tables are already in your database and what their prefix is.

Thanks, I really didn’t notice that there was a special prefix. Now it works again ??

When you UPGRADE, you don’t touch your .htaccess file or wp-config.php. wp-config.php contains information about your existing database which contains the guts of WP. And of course, ALWAYS make a backup of that database either through PHPMyAdmin in your cPanel (export the *.sql file) or by using the WP-Backup plugin right from your WP dashboard. ??
