I just upgraded to 2.5 – and while it’s going to take some time getting used to – I think I’m going to like it.

HOWEVER – I’m having a problem with the editor. When creating a new post I can type in the VISUAL box – but can not click on the HTML link. Also missing are the buttons that used to be there before – to add a link or graphic, to make the font bold, etc….

When I’m editing an existing post I still can’t click the HTML tab – but I do have new buttons that allow me to add media – that I don’t see when i’m writing a new post.

Is anyone else having this issue? How can I resolve?

Reading further down in the forum .. someone posted this nifty picture:

I’m missing ALL of those neat buttons and such. That’s what I’m talking about.

There’s a couple threads about this already, but yeah… the new release is botched.

I seem to have resolved things…

    – installed the Web Developer 1.1.5 addon for Firefox and disabled caching
    – deleted and re-uploaded /wp-includes
    – removed .htaccess restrictions (not that it matters, from a security perspective… the business blog I’ve developing is blank)

The WYSIWYG editor seems to work now, and I can switch between that and the HTML editor with ease. I’ll try narrowing down the source of the problem later.

I really have no idea what all of that means. I’m a novice when it comes to all of this.

    This is the big one:

    deleted and re-uploaded /wp-includes

Do that. Do wp-admin as well, while you’re at it. Also clear your browser cache.

I’ve done ALL of this .. and I’m still having issues.

You know .. upgrades shouldn’t be THIS difficult. Yet every time I do an upgrade I spend a week trying to resolve issues. It’s very frustrating for someone who just wants a simple blogging platform – who isn’t a seasoned PHP expert.

But then you see that message “UPGRADE NOW OR ELSE THE WORLD WILL END” – and you try and do the right thing and upgrade.

I think I’m going to revert back to my last version.

After 10 hours of troubleshooting, deleting the files five times and reinstalling them, downloading the 2.5 zip files twice, and then extracting them twice … I was finally able to get this to work.

Don’t ask me how … I have no idea.

This is how I solved the case of the missing WYSYWIG editor in WordPress 2.5:
    – Downloaded the Dean’s FCKEditor For WordPress, activated it,
    – Went to the “Write” page
    – Back to the Plugins, disable the Dean’s FCKEditor
    – Go to Write, the WYSIWYG is there!

    Hope this helps.
