2.1 Upgrade Issues

The code below caused this error I am about to describe, also it did this after a new post but rectified itself somehow after a moment.
The left sidebar and main column would not appear. the right sidebar appeared fine but it was the only thing showing other than the header, the theme didnt seem off at all either. Only using two plugins sidebar widgets and widgetize anything. once i took the code below out it worked again and as i said the error was also caused after a new post but somehow rectified itself.
the following code was contained in a widget, a text widget.
