I read a previous topic which is now closed and I understand how this is happening. I also have images that were named the same as the slugs I was trying to create and this was leading to the -2 addition on the links.

My issue is that I was using another method to cloak links without a plugin and later came to ThirstyAffiliates and the link structure must be as in the website.

So I have been into the database and manually changed them by removing the -2.

I don’t think that there will be any clashes between a post called ABCD and an image ABCD.png or have I done this wrong? Re-uploading images and/or changing all site links is not an option. So hope what I did works, would appreciate your comments?

I think if I have to re-save a link it will add it back on, but I will worry about that if/when I do.

    Hey Kevin,

Ideally you should have to go into the DB to make changes, and you are right the correct method would be delete the images, change the slug on your link, then re-upload the image. Or rename the image filename to something else that doesn’t match the slug. Or rename the slug on your affiliate link so that it doesn’t have the 2 but is unique in the system.

I guess the method you chose would be OK, but it would depend if the system prioritises the ThirstyAffiliates custom post type or if it prioritises the in-built “attachment” post type when the link is being generated.

As always, test test and test some more ?? At least you’re aware of what’s happened and if there are any issues in the future from doing this at least you know what would be the likely cause.

    Hope this helps!
