• Ever since the 1.9.4 update, our enclosures are really spotty on whether or not they get added to our sermons. I assume whatever logic was implemented for this “Bugfix don’t include enclosure in podcast if there is no audio file” update is the reason behind this, but I’m not sure how to go about debugging/fixing it. Has anyone else experienced issues? Without an enclosure tag, our podcast does not update on iTunes which is obviously problematic. We haven’t changed our process at all, and the mp3 is uploaded every week as we add a new sermon. Why would it think there isn’t an audio file sometimes? Am I doing something wrong? Is there a fix for this? Thanks in advance!!

  • This problem was addressed and resolved in our 1.9.5 update.

I’m running 1.9.5 now and now enclosures aren’t showing up at all, so my podcast isn’t updating with new sermons anymore. Do I need to upload the sermons to my WP media section than just attach them to the sermon? I’ve been uploading them directly in the “Location of MP3” field up until now, but it’s not working anymore.

Oh wait, the enclosures are in my feed, but theyre showing a length of 0 and are not showing in itunes.

Ironically, when I look at some of my older episodes, they have 2 enclosures. One with an accurate length and one with a length of zero.

iTunes is skipping your podcast episodes that have 0 length. Sermon Manager code includes a script that automatically calculates the MP3 length during post creation but if security settings interfere with that process the post must be created with a length of 0. In our experience, hosting MP3 files on separate servers (Amazon, etc.) usually is the cause.

Whatever the reason, enter the MP3 length manually to satisfy iTunes requirements. Enter 60 minutes for every sermon if you don’t want to have your web person try to figure it out all the time.

I was just wondering about that. That was indeed the problem! Thanks for the help! I’m not hosting on Amazon or any separate server (I’m uploading directly to WP media manager), so what should I look at as far as permissions? Anything I can resolve so that the automatic calculations can occur properly and successfully for us?

    Thanks!

Unfortunately I don’t have an answer for that as I do not have a lot of experience with the server side of things. Perhaps someone in the community here can give you some pointers on that.

As for our code, the developer is working on coming up with a better way to calculate MP3 length which will be tested and released with future updates to Sermon Manager.

Ok, thanks. I’ll keep my eyes out for an update in the near future, and in the meantime, I’ll just continue entering the length manually at the time I upload the sermons. Thanks!
