With the 1.8.8 update, all of my paid articles were no longer hidden if you clicked on a paid category list or if you used the search function and searched for articles. Using these access points, all of my paid materials were wide open for any non members to see.

The only fix I could find was to use the filter searches and archives setting and set the option to “yes, only members can see.” Previously before this update, non members could only see excerpts using archives and searches. Now I have to hide everything completely to keep the paid articles from being viewed by non members.

I know the issues is not a problem with any of my plugins, as I disabled them one by one without any changes, so it was obviously something that changed with the 1.8.8 update.

Was this a planned change or is there a bug? I really liked the fact that non members could see the excerpts previously, as it often drew enough interest to entice new members to join. With update 1.8.8, that is not possible any longer? If this is a bug, do you plan to fix it soon? If not a bug, why the change?

Thanks for bringing this to our attention, and sorry that this bug went out.

We had tweaked a bit of code to fix a bug where direct file downloads (via our “getfile.php” script) and some other non-page assets (like some pages created by other plugins) were not being locked down properly. This inadvertently broke protection on index pages like the blog homepage and category indexes.

A possible fix can be found here:

I would like to test this a bit more to make sure it works in those other cases we were trying to fix in 1.8.8, but plan to push an update out with something like that tomorrow. Feel free to patch your copy of PMPro in the meantime.

    Thanks.

The fix for this is in the 1.8.8.2 release. If you run into any issues, please open a new thread and I’ll be on the look out.
