• I have a blog Catavino and a friend recently told me that their site has a 160,000+ back links from me to them. Turns out I also have 50,000,000+ backlinks to myself in tools.

Now when I look at the links that webmaster tools says are going from me to her, none of them have a link in them to her. Not even in the source code. There is nothing linking to them. VERY ODD.

Not sure what to do. But something seems wacky and not right. I’m running the latest version fo wordpress with multisite functionality.

Yes it shows that Catavino is linking to Winetravelguides.com 160,000+ times

and that Catavino is linking to Catavino 50,000,000+ times

Several months back I did noticed that Google Webmasters did change the way how they show our backlinks. Now they show all under one report, including the links with so called “nofollow” rule.

If you go i.e. https://www.opensiteexplorer.org/legacy/backlinks that’s how you’ll be able to see the links with “true” value.

BTW you do have lots of backlinks, great job there bro.

Ok, that is interesting, but why are there so many on the Google form? And is google actually acknowledging these? I have maybe 10 links to Wine travel guides from Catavino in total. So there are no nofollow links that I can find…very strange

Old index was showing only 10% of the backlinks you have, Google Caffeine now displays all of them. Also please note that Google reports are valid as well. Other’s are only what’s show to the public eye.

Great, but the question then is where are they? If I can’t see them from the front or back where are they? Anywhere i can look?

You can see all of them from Webmasters

Emil this is the problem. I get a LONG list of links – NONE of which link to the site they say they do. NOT ONE.

Why? Where are the links? Where are they hiding? If I go to a purported link that points to the target site, there is nothing on the page, or in the code. They don’t exist.

    Very frustrating

I feel your pain, completely the same thing over here. They’re there although not on the page where they say it is and frustrating indeed. Google introduced the “discover your links” back in 2007. Than in 2008 there was a blog post about Good times with inbound links, good read for you as well.

New Google Caffeine changed this and link reporting from Webmasters as well. Nothing will affect your site, but it’s bit confusing how they report that’s all.
