Related posts in feeds?

  • Hi, thanks for this plugin. However, I would like to request a feature request. How about including the related posts in the feeds?

  • @silkenhut Hmm… that’s an interesting suggestion. I personally would never put it there, but, to each their own. ??

    You can make this change by editing your wp-includes/feed.php. You can try to append related_posts()to the $content in the definition of the the_content_rss() function. I haven’t tried it myself so I can’t guarantee that it would work.

    The Simple Tags plugin has related posts for feeds built-in.

    The Simple Tags plugin, however, only uses tags to find related content… I believe YARPP pulls much more consistently relevant related posts.

    All that being said, I’m looking to add tags and categories into YARPP’s related posts algorithm in the near future.

    Just a question, so do you think you will add an option in future versions to put related posts in RSS feeds themselves? Or should I go ahead and do the following as you mentioned:

    I only ask, because if you think you will make the change, one can wait until it is included instead of editing code and then “forgetting” to remove that code if you were to integrate it into the plug-in yourself. Cause I do think it is a great idea to include the related posts in the RSS feed, since I know of many people who do not “visit website anymore” but just use the RSS feed.

    @cryogenn, re: RSS — I’ll put it up on my 2.0 laundry list (“coming soon”). It doesn’t hurt to add the option.

    I’ll add it as a filter, so that you won’t need to mess with any code, and it won’t break anything if you, for some reason unbeknownst to me, disable the plugin. ^^

    I just want to add my vote for ‘Related Posts in Feeds’ and hope this feature will make it into the next release.

    Also it would be good to have a few additional options for the feed output, eg. I would like to display long excerpts in the blog and shorter excerpts in the feed.

    I just wanted to let you all know that related posts in feeds is coming in the upcoming version 2.1… I’d really appreciate it if any of you could test this version.

    Download the YARPP version 2.1 beta

    (Note, the version number in the files still says 2.0.6… just replace your yet-another-related-posts-plugin folder with this one. You can always go back to 2.0.6 if need be.)

    Please post your feedback in the more-official 2.1 beta thread.
