• Please help.

I followed the podz instructions to the letter but my site is not at all as it should be.

The template is not picking up all the images associated with it – eg rap background colour and right hand menu colour gif.

    My footer has disappeared.

The information in the RH menu is not displaying at all, from the recent posts down to the links at the bottom.

When I click on a comment I do not get the comments page at all.

In my original installation I had the index.php file outside my wordpress folder, does that mean something needs to be altered there for example?

I was using the gemini template installation.

I am panicking and will re-install 1.3 within the hour if I can’t get this sorted.

Podz – are you out there?

  • EDIT: And I have no idea how…but I seem to have solved this…!

I actually can’t figure this out. On my main site my comments are working fine, everyone is able to comment fine – including me when logged in or not.

However on a test blog I am running…everyone BUT me can comment. When I’m logged in I get the error about supplying name and email (which is supplied)…and I absolutely can’t figure out what the issue is as it’s the exact same set up, just in a different directory.

comments show up fine; no one can post new ones.

    Thread Starter PA

    (@pa)

I actually fiddled with my users page in admin as I saw there was a blank profile in there, with no posts attached, a blank name field and a www.remarpro.com email address. I thought that might be linked to the fact that all my commenters were coping up as anonymous, with the same email address as above.

This solved the problem in the short term, but as I don’t really know why, I wouldn’t advocate doing that! But as I also accidentally deleted a second version of my own profile which seemed to be linked to my imported posts from blogger, I created more problems for myself and had to re-install everything including database to get them back.

If I hadn’t done any of the above, and had just customised a more recent version of comments.php to fit my theme, it would all have been okay…

I am having the same problem as PA – if anyone besides me posts a comment, the name/e-mail that they enter gets posted as Anonymous with an e-mail of [email protected]. There is a user set up with no information except for that e-mail address, so it appears that my comments puts everyone into that basket. Any ideas?

Delete your template’s comments.php file from the server (after backing up)

Upload a new file from the 1.5 download (use the Classic comments.php) and test against that ? It’ll look bad, but that’s not important right now.

OK I tried that, and what happens is, if I’m not logged in as me, I don’t even have the boxes to enter a name and e-mail. There’s only the comment body box.

Oops, I guess a link would be nice. Go check https://unapplied.com

I guess I didn’t understand how it works. Apparently everyone will have to register at the site to post comments as themselves, and then things will work. Unfortunately, most people will not figure this out, and a ton of comments from Anonymous will result. Can you set the comments up to not require the commenter to be a user, or is the old way no longer an option?

I second this! I’ve redone everything I installed three times, thinking I had some sort of error because name, email and website address weren’t appearing on comments, if the comments appeared at all. Help appreciated

OK if you look in the comments from Lea here, there is a way to fix it by commenting out part of the wp-comments-post.php file. She also says to modify the comment template, but I didn’t have to do that to get it to work.

Also have a problem. When I try to get to WP to post and do the upgrade, I get this error:
Fatal error: Cannot redeclare add_magic_quotes() (previously declared in /home/.callaway/guymauve/biglittleg.com/blog/wp-admin/post.php:6) in /home/.callaway/guymauve/biglittleg.com/blog/wp-includes/functions.php on line 1738

I’ve just upgrade to 1.5. I was following instructions, uploaded what I thought I should upload, but now can’t get to my admin page and the first image is missing.
