I updated to 15.1 this morning. When I went to share my first post of the day to Twitter, the Twitter meta card did not work. The tweet did not show the picture and summary, instead only the link appeared in the tweet. I copied the link and pasted it into Twitter’s Card validator and received the following error:

“ERROR: Failed to fetch page due to: ChannelClosed”

I double-checked in my admin to be certain the update did not disable the Twitter meta card and settings (it did not).

This has never happened before, so I’m thinking it is related to the 15.1 update.

@devnihil Thanks for getting back to me so promptly.

Here’s the URL for my site:
    https://patriotretort.com

The Twitter card validator gives me the same error over that URL too. I just checked. In fact, I tried several pages in card validator with the same unfortunate outcome. Then I spent the morning combing through Twitter developer to find details on this particular error, and the error I’m getting isn’t even listed among the possible errors one might receive.

@dianny Thanks for your reply. I checked on the URL and can see the Yoast plugin outputting the metadata without any issue (see image here). Whereas I don’t see a specific twitter:image specified, it should default to the Open Graph image. I also checked the URL in another debugger here, and it didn’t return any issues with relation to Twitter.

I was able to find a small amount of documentation on Twitter and this error though here: https://twittercommunity.com/t/error-failed-to-fetch-page-due-to-channelclosed/123432/6

The possible causes for the error listed there essentially are that either the IP range from which Twitter is trying to access the page is blocked, or that the site is returning a 502 error in response to the request.

Have you tried disabling the Yoast SEO plugin, and then retesting the URL in the card validator to see whether the same error is returned? We realize that the metadata itself won’t be available in that case, but it should tell you whether the issue is with the request not being able to get a correct response from the server.

    Hi!

    I’m having the same issue.

    This link has a twitter:image tag: https://www.infinitividades.com.br/wordpress/critica-os-7-de-chicago/

    This one doesn’t: https://www.infinitividades.com.br/wordpress/critica-yellowstone-3a-temporada/

    None of them work.

Everything seemed fine until October 14th, but now I get no preview from every link I test in the card validator (same ChannelClosed message). The images are served by WordPress. For instance: https://i2.wp.com/www.infinitividades.com.br/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2020/08/yellowstone37.jpg?fit=1200%2C630

I changed it back so the images are linked direct to my server (with no SSL), but it made no difference.

I tried to disable the plugin but the OG tags kept being added, I don’t know how. Maybe is a local or remote cache issue.

Since it works fine in every other validator, I’m starting to think it’s a Twitter issue.
