1,436 users and not one comment/response

I’m clearly no whizz kid, I post every day when not working, but for the past few years of doing this I feel I’m talking to myself. I use the Twenty-thirteen theme, basic, but does me. I’m sure a lot of the users are ‘fake’, should have a plug-in that confirms email. Where am I going wrong? Some kind of help would seriously be welcome.

One thing I notice is the difficulty in registering to comment:
1) You must be logged in to post a comment.
2) Link takes to the log in page. Select “Register”.
3) The short-code[wppb-register]appears, and a note to Please go back to the Home Page and scroll down to the Link ‘Register’ at the Bottom of the Page.
4) Back on the homepage, there is no Register link at the bottom of the page or in the footer.
5) If I select “Registration” from the menu, I see another shortcode:[user_registration_form id=”1518″].You need to fix those short-codes so a new vistor can register and comment.
