Image alignment on pages

I have no control on the positioning of my images, however I change the options left / right etc. with the result that my blog looks a mess.

Does the CSS in my theme override the inbuilt WP positioning function?

I ran this home page through the validation, and it looks a mess. Unfortunately I’m not qualified to interpret the problems.

Your home page comes up with a cannot find error.

All the other pages with photos look fine in both IE and FF. I did see a “blog” or a “mess” but maybe that is on the index page.

Validation is important. The errors you find are cascading. In other words when you fix one, several others will go away also. Having a validated site assures that people will see exactly what you want them to see.

I take your point about validation, and I will read up on it.

However with images I have no control of how they are displayed using the in-built WP control (i.e. click on an image, click on the image button in the WYSIWYG panel, and adjust the pop-up).

In other words, I cannot do something simple like align right off the right-hand margin.

This is why I suspect that the inbuilt CSS in the theme is overriding what I want to do with positioning images. And, because of this, word-wrap looks amateurish, captions are non-existent (have tried some plugins but they make things worse), and, in my opinion, the site looks poor.

Every image I insert I have to find a workaround. For instance, two images side-by-side – the only way I can do this is find the max. width, divide by 2, and add images of this width. Anything less or more and it becomes chaotic.

And I am only looking at the site in Firefox so far.

I also realise that I am using WP to perform a function that it was not designed for, and because of this, I assume I will have problems. It is fair to say, I think, that WP is not the system to use to handle images intuitively.

What I need is a freelance professional who knows WP backwards and can help. Are we allowed to seek professional help here?

You might try a different theme and see if you have image control. Mine (the default) has pretty good control and the CSS does not override the settings I provide. But, I do tweek my images in photoshop and provide a clickable low-res to a hi-res.

BTW, most here will advise you against using the wysiwyg panel that comes with WP and as yet another test, you might try Windows Live Writer (free) that will post directly to your site.

Your work arounds seem to work. The site looks nice to me. One hint from an old marketing person is to put in a “call to action” other than just “to contact.”

As for soliciting paid assistance here, I don’t know.
