• Hello,

I am a complete beginner at this and am struggling.

I’ve purchased hosting with 123-reg.co.uk and have followed their instructions to link wordpress to the account.

However, when I go to my site (domain I’ve purchased):

    https://www.chooseheadphones.co.uk/

A wordpress page comes up saying the page doesn’t exist.

I should also point out that I am using wampserver <- Will I need to delete the database from wampserver since I am using 123-reg for my hosting?

Can anyone please advise? Ultimately my next steps are:

    1. Have a live site at https://www.chooseheadphones.co.uk/
    2. Set up Google Analytics to the site
    3. Make changes and publish live (I don’t want to be in a staging environment)

Thank you all for reading + any help! ??

  • Hi ajdood. Sounds like you have two different WP installations going here; one on your host and one local. The page you see on you site (on your host) is indicating that you need to install WP. After you do that you can either develop your site there, or you can develop your site locally on your WAMP installation and then move it to your host.

    Hi bdbrown,

    Thanks for your reply.

I’ve just removed the database from the Wampserver so I can use the one on my host. (123 reg)

According to 123-reg, I need to complete the installation:

    https://www.chooseheadphones.co.uk/wp-admin/install.php

But when I follow that link, it takes me to a WP page stating the domain doesnt exist.

    Any ideas? :s

EDIT: I’ve completed the installation using a proxy. However, accessing the site without it still presents the same issue (seeing WP page stating domain doesnt exist)

It seems your installation was succesfull, I can see your website.

This is strange…I’m still seeing the WP page rather than my site.

I’ve tried clearing cache as well.

This link shows that WP is already installed:
    https://www.chooseheadphones.co.uk/wp-admin/install.php

The screenshot you posted is on wordpress.com. That is different that a self-hosted WP installation using WordPress installed from www.remarpro.com.

The differences between www.remarpro.com and wordpress.com are often misunderstood. Here are a couple of references:

    Hi Bdbrown,

    Thanks for your reply.

The issue is is that if I click this link for my site: https://www.chooseheadphones.co.uk/wp-admin/install.php

    Or just go to https://www.chooseheadphones.co.uk

I get redirected to wordpress.com (see previous post link for screenshot). I’m not sure why this is happening and I am definitely not seeing what you’re seeing! ??

Here’s what I see when I open your first link:
    https://pasteboard.co/2qULhahc.jpg

    And the second link:
    https://pasteboard.co/3VqxgUDU3.jpg

Have you cleared your browser cache? Tried a different browser?

    Thread Starter ajdood

    (@ajdood)

Interesting. Yeah I dont see those.

I’ve tried clearing my cache, tried a different browser and tried different PCs.

    Not sure what’s going on!

I contacted 123-reg and they suggested waiting 24 hours for the IP cache to clear or something along those lines.

    Could that be it?

Also – I’m worried that because I’m making changes to the site by accessing it through a proxy that I will have to redo the changes once I can access it without it – is that the case?

    they suggested waiting 24 hours

Yes, it can take up to 24 hours for DNS routing changes to take place. It could be that the routing tables have been updated where I am (US West Coast) but hasn’t yet updated in your location.

    I find this odd though:

    I get redirected to wordpress.com

Did you have a site on wp.com with the same name?

I’m making changes to the site by accessing it through a proxy

How so? Can’t you get to the admin section directly?

    Thread Starter ajdood

    (@ajdood)

Yes I had a site on wordpress.com, but I deleted it earlier today before moving to www.remarpro.com

So that would explain why the domain is still pointing to wp.com. If it’s not correct in 24 hours then I’d check with your host to verify the routing entries.

Okay so that initial issue seems to have resolved since yesterday

However, now I am receiving a message that :

“The owner of https://www.chooseheadphones.co.uk has configured their web site improperly. To protect your information from being stolen, Firefox has not connected to this web site.

This site uses HTTP Strict Transport Security (HSTS) to specify that Firefox only connect to it securely. As a result, it is not possible to add an exception for this certificate.”

I am not using SSL, is there a way to stop accessing my site via https? Even when I type in http it redirects to https

the wp-config.php does not have any code relating to ssl in it.

    Tried adding:

    “define( ‘FORCE_SSL_LOGIN’, false );
    define( ‘FORCE_SSL_ADMIN’, false );”

    But that didn’t work either

Does it do the same thing using IE/Edge/Chrome?
I just connected to your site using FF without any problems.

Maybe something in your browser configuration?

    Thread Starter ajdood

    (@ajdood)

Yes this is occuring on all browsers

Tried a different PC as well and the same situation

    https://www.chooseheadphones.co.uk

    redirects to

    https://www.chooseheadphones.co.uk

    Anyone have any ideas?
