• After 6 days of loosing all my data at https://www.melissaclee.com I have finally got my backup from my webhost. Now I am not able to re-add my themes and plugins. I add it to my filezilla but it does not show up in my wordpress admin.

    Anyone know what’s wrong?

  • Not without more information. What theme are you trying to use? Where are you uploading? When adding to Filezilla, are you just adding to queue, or are you processing the queue?

I know how to do it, its been fine for the last 3 months until now. I was just trying to re-add the themes and plugins that I have previously had.

So, does this mean your problem is solved? If so, could you mark it “resolved”?

If not – you still haven’t given enough info to obtain any real help…we need more information. No one is questioning whether or not you “know how to do it”, but it’d be nice to know *what* you did so maybe we can figure out what’s wrong. Otherwise, all you’re going to get are stabs in the dark – most likely you won’t get a solution.

Are you getting some sort of error or what?

I just upload the themes and plugins to my filezilla and it wont show up in my wp-admin. My site blog had some problems and my webhosting company restored it with a backup. I don’t know if it has something to do with that. I sent an e-mail to them and all I got in the reply was “everything looks fine”.

You mean in your Administration area, that you log in through the browser? What folder are you uploading to? Who is your webhosting company? What problems did you have previously?

My webhost is 1&1 and my posts disappeared (I don’t know how) last week and so I requested a backup from them. I got my posts but not the theme and plugins that were there.

I am uploading to wp-content/themes and wp-content/plugins they show up in the folders on filezilla but not my administration so I can’t apply them to my blog.

    My webhost is 1&1

Ugh. Oh man…I feel so sorry for you!

    Let me ask this:

When you *originally* created your blog, did you use the 1-click install from 1&1.com?

And if so, when you were trying to “fix” whatever went wrong, did you log in through your control panel, saw there were no files there, and uploaded your own?

If that’s not what happened, let me know. But I’m suspecting something here…I don’t want to say anything unless I know I’m on the right track…

1&1 doesn’t have a one click install. They have something where you can make a wordpress blog through them but it’s not fully customizable. I just use the information from the databases in the mySQL.

I was however advised by someone to start a new database and upload WP with that information. I don’t know if 1&1 put the backup in the old database or the new one or both. I e-mailed them to ask but haven’t gotten a reply.

I believe we are talking about the same thing. Is that what you used initially? If so, when you started a new database and all that, did you create your own installation? Do you have access to MySQL and phpMyAdmin through your hosting account?

    Thread Starter melissaclee

    (@melissaclee)

I have never used their one click install. I have created all of my blogs by downloading WP and using the MYSQL info. Yes I have access to the MYSql and PhpMyAdmin however for some reason I can’t access the phpmyadmin on my computer but I am able to on the computer at the library.

    That’s really strange. Of course, 1&1 is…ugh.

Anyway, Did you get a copy of your database that they backed up for you?

Another question is, when you log into your control panel and look for the files you uploaded, are they there?

1&1 likes to have *weird* filesystem setups. I remember installing for one lady, and I had to locate her files in some *really* weird path. I finally found it by opening up Notepad and writing the word “test” in it, and saving it as “test.txt” Then I started uploading the file in folder after folder, checking for it in the browser until I finally found the area I was supposed to upload.

When you uploaded the “new” stuff, could you install it just fine? Or is the filesystem you’re uploading to the same one that was there before?

The reason I’m asking all of this is, like I said above, 1&1 is weird. It’s the only host I’ve ever had dealings with that is so difficult to work with. Locating *where* you are actually supposed to upload your files is a nightmare. And then when you do it, you have problems doing other stuff.

I asked about the “1-click” stuff because when you use it, you *do not* have access to the database. Nor do you have access to the filesystem. They hide all of that from you, so if you move from the 1-click install, you lose everything because you have no ability to back anything up.

To me, it sounds like you’re going ot have to research what happened. I mean, you said “something went wrong” – what went wrong? Did you uninstall wordpress, and ask them to make a backup for you? Did you decide to go with the backup, delete your old blog and re-upload everything? What your posts “disappeared” did you email them about it? What did they say? Did you get an error message? Do you have access to your error logs? if so, what do they say?

I’m not asking all these questions just to ask them – it would just help if you could provide some specific info that would help figure out what’s up here.

Yes, I got an error message saying that the there was no WP- configure and something came up where I retyped all the database info and then it became a new blog. So I needed to get the backup.

I have not recieved a copy of the backup eventhough I was told one would be e-mailed to me.

I wish I could figure out how to fix it myself since it takes them forever to do something.

I am not able to get into the phpmyadmin to see the files but for the old database it says .62 MB and the new one is .24 so I’m guessing everything is in the old one?

I am able to make new posts on the wordpress admin I just can’t re-add my themes and plugins. Also I tried adding plugins to my other blogs and they wont work either eventhough I haven’t had any problems with those.
