Default category not checked in new post.

    I’m running WP 2.1. on two different sites. When I start to write a new post, the default category is not checked. I think this might have started when I upgraded. Is this a known bug in 2.1?

    This is not a bug but a choice made by developers.

    “The reasoning behind leaving the default category unchecked at first was this:

    * Default means fallback, not “something that continues to be the case when a preference has been made”
    * Many people reported being frustrated by the behavior of checking the default behavior, as many of their posts ended up being categorized in the default category “

    Hmm, so why have a default category at all?

    leave the checkbox blank.
    Save your post.
    Edit your post — see which checkbox is checked? Your default.

    Can someone remind me where in the interface I can manage the default category. Can you also assign two categories to be checked by default?
