• I have a page-oriented WP website for academic papers that uses WP-footnotes with its default options. The website consists of several hundred pages with footnotes. Can I replace WP-footnotes with this plug-in without any further action on my part?

The reason for the question is that WP-footnotes seems to periodically “forget” its options, causing me to have to reset the options to their defaults. When this happens all the footnotes across the site will be formatted incorrectly (e.g., no superscripts for the identifier, no reduced text size for the footnotes themselves) until I notice and restore the WP-footnote options to their defaults.

    Hi,

Yes, Footnotes Made Easy is a direct fork of WP-Footnotes, as that plugin has now been abandoned by its developer.

The settings issue is one that occurred with this version of the plugin too but I’ve now fixed it. This version is pretty much the same as the one you’re used to, with a just a few bug fixes and tweaks here-and-there.

To switch over, deactivate WP-Footnotes, install and activate Footnotes Made Easy. It will automatically pick up the settings from WP-Footnotes and you shouldn’t see a difference. You’ll then be able to delete WP-Footnotes.

Let me know if you have any other questions about this.
