    Hi Cory,

    Hate to bother you but need help. I have been using Duplicator without issues (with GoDaddy) but not this time.

    It’s almost there except 1) I get errors and 2) the site is broken: style issues and Japanese test garbling (https://honeygirlorganics-japan.com)

    The error messages I see on the installer log includes:
    **ERROR** database error write ‘MySQL server has gone away’ – [sql=/* DUPLICATOR MYSQL SCRIPT CREATED ON : August 13, 2014, 8:55 pm */

    DATA-REPLACE ERRORS (Serialization):
    SELECT option_value, autoload FROM wp_options WHERE option_id = “281”;
    (and 8 more similar lines)
    SELECT meta_value FROM wp_postmeta WHERE meta_id = “435”;
    (and 21 similar lines)

    I don’t know if this is relevant, but the package that I am trying to install is originally from the site up on the domain. (I got into an issue and need to switch to a backed up version) I have installed the backup version locally with no issues. I made a new package from that local site.

    Any suggestions are very much appreciated.

  • It looks like its realated to a mysql timeout issue

    **ERROR** database error write ‘MySQL server has gone away’

    Is this a large site? I know GD has limits on how long they will let a process run. If you have access to mysqldump on GD I would try and use that, its under the Plugins settings options.

    Hi Cory,

    Thank you very much for your quick response.

    My site’s archive file size is 68MB and when zipped, 24MB. That is not large, isn’t it?

    I called GD but the support person was not helpful with that. I tried making a new package per you instruction but got I got today didn’t appear to know about that.

    I tried making a package with mysqldump on, but got an error message. In the log, it says “mysqldump: Got error: 2002: Can’t connect to local MySQL server through socket ‘/tmp/mysql.sock’ (2) when trying to connect”

    GoDaddy guy suggested hiring someone from elance.com. Or should I learn how to backup a WP manually? (haven’t done it…) Or would you be available for providing premium support?

    Thank you again for your help.

    Sorry, I forgot to cleanup a part of my draft. Please ignore the 2nd sentence in the 3rd paragraph)

    I should first try it myself to transfer my site from local to web server using MAMP. There are some videos on YouTube. But tomorrow morning when my mind is in better shape. Wish me luck.

    Thank you again for your plugin and for the support.

    Hi Yumiko,

    Any site under 100MB shouldn’t be an issue on most hosts. If your getting a mysql.sock error using mysqldump then I would just go back to PHP mode. If your site is using an international character set then you may run into issues. The plugin doesn’t fully support all language types as of this release….

    Hi Cory,

    Thank you for your response. That (international character) might be it but again, that did not cause trouble with other sites of mine before, so I am not sure.

    Fortunately, I was able to transfer my site up on GoDadday server. I watched several videos on YouTube and learned to export and import a DB. Having an experience with Duplicator prepped me to take that step, so I thank you for that.

    Hey @yumiko,

    I’m thinking it is related to a configuration issue. I believe on the FAQ page there is something about mysql.sock issues also some other items for database issues that might help…

    Cheers~
