• Whenever I save or publish a draft, the following happens.
Links go crazy, and ‘ & ” turn into /.

    Here is an example.
Step 1: In visual editor: Take a look at Bob’s client list
In HTML editor: Take a look at Bob’s client list

    Step 2: After pressing publish
Take a look at Bob\’s client list (When I view the HTML in the edit post section).

Here is what it looks like on my website: Take a look at Bob\\\’s client list
And here is the link that it sends you to: https://xxx.120.xxx.xxx/%22///%22 [I x’d out my domain for this threat]

Can someone please explain how to stop this from happening?

Each time I publish I get more and more /’s !@#$!

I once had a bad plugin do this (adding slashes in post titles in the place of apostrophes).

This happened immediately after installing wordpress. No plugins were there..

?? I dont know what to do, I deleted all plugins from my installation. I am using the latest 2.7 version on a HostRocket account.

Each time I update a page the backslash problem gets worse. No links are working, and I can’t include images into my site.

Here are some things to experiment with to narrow down the problem:

    • Contact your web host.
    • Set your permalinks back to default and rename any .htaccess files (to disable them). These files are invisible, so set your FTP to show invisibles.
    • Check your WordPress and blog URL settings (there should be no trailing slash).
    • Switch to the default theme.
    • Reinstall WordPress manually. Web host auto-installs can be flaky.
    • Check and repair your database if needed.
