• I am posting this here because it is now an install problem. The sequence of events:
    1. I had two beautifully functioning WP blog pages, but pingback didn’t work so I followed a tip and replaced post.php and functions.php.
    2. Since then I cannot login at either site: both give a blank page when logging in via post.php
    3. Tried restoring original post.php and post.php from a new download of Wp1.2.2 with no luck.
    4. In desperation I have completed deleted one installation of WP from one of the domains (databases and all) and reinstalled it.
    5. Still having the same problem: cannot login–post.php page is blank.
    6. Tried several reinstalls, deleting databases etc. refreshing flushing etc. with no luck
I have never had this problem before with installing WP. I am at a loss now, because a fresh install won’t even work. I wonder is it a problem with Mysql with my server, just don’t know.
    THanks and happy holidays.

I just registered (testuser8) and am having no trouble logging in. Try deleting your browser’s cache and toss all WP-related cookies. Feel free to delete my account, or bump me up a few user levels if you’d like me to look at post.php directly.

Thanks mcmanx, I have just fixed the problem. It was quite a major head scratcher, and the only thing that remotely explains it was a failure to overwrite post.php and the behaviour of Golive in handling site resources. That or the demons of Christmas, although I always thought they were elves :-).
Anyway, I wouldve been happy for your help but its back to normal.
However, pingback still eludes me, and it is my quest for pingback functionality that started all this. Not sure if it is a bug in 1.2.2, interested if anyone has had problems and been able to fix them.

Never overwrite files when you’re using FTP. It can lead to incomplete transfers. Always delete first, then upload the new file.
Pingback is an enigma. It works for some and not for others. I doubt that it will be fixed until someone knows exactly what’s causing it and why it works for some and not others.

I know now about ftping, I only wasted 24hrs working it out. ??
As for PingBack, its an enigma wrapped in another, larger enigma. I hope one day it will work for all of us. Until then, onward and upward!
    Thanks for your help macmanx!
