How could a hacker make my index.php a blank html page? How could it (perhaps a bug, me, or my server) become a blank html page by itself? I chmod everything to 644 in root and the wp-admin folder & items to 644. What else would I need to do and what other possible scripts could I do to secure my site. This has happened twice now! I was using Mambo before Word Press and it was hacked by a hacker, but if this is a hacker they aren’t accomplishing anything other than making my index.php. Maybe, I don’t know it’s my host doing something? Could anyone help me with possibilities so that I can write a more informed letter or handle it myself.

  • First thing I would do is get hold of your access logs and error logs. If they are not available for download, request them from your host.
Ask your host if anything related to your server has occurred in the last 24 hours.
Can you establish which files are missing / corrupted ?

No, my database is fine — all I do is take my backup index and reload it again. I was worried it was a cross scripting attack at first, but I can’t find any vulnerabilities to that in Word Press, so I’m just kind of lost! I’m the only user, so nobody else has access and I change my password all the time, as well as my ftp password. My tracker shows that someone has been hitting my https://domain/wp-admin/template.php, but its not open – 644 – and I don’t have any detailed logs. Any program ideas for that?

Given what crawls the net – no ??
Do you have the IP ? If so, ban it.

I would recommend contacting your host with your concerns. It could be someone on the same server messing with you.
