WordPress changing it, itself.

ANYONE FACED SUCH PROBLEM ? what is the solution?

so I read what was there on the codex. I’m thinking that if I knew what user WordPress was using to access the server, I could add that user to my webdev users group, the group I use to assign users access to web files, and that might solve the problem.

When I changed permissions to anything but 755 (I didn’t try every possible combination), -what I ususally use for general web, the themes dissapear from the wp-admin panel. IE, I do:
chmod -R 0776 themes and the wp-admin says theme not found or some such (appoligies but did not document while the issue was happening). Also just changing the permissions on the header.php file caused similar issues. When I change the permissions back, the problems go away and all is well again.

Q1. What is the user name that WordPress uses to access the server? and can you add that to the group that has access to your web files so that the wp-admin editor can make and save changes to the header.php, footer.php, …etc files?

Q2. Am I missing a concept about how WordPress works when trying to change permissions for specific files so that they can be edited using the wp-admin panel appearence>editor? How can I fix the problem of not being able to write to files I want to customize?

My site is using WP default theme 2011. I really like the random header feature that allows you to change header for each page. The problem is it does not allow us to select the headers: the only way to take out certain headers is to delete them.

For example, I uploaded 10 headers, the current system selects randomly from all 10 images; it does not allow the selection of 8 out of the 10, or 7 out of the 10, or 5 out of the 10, or just 3 out of the 10 images. I for now want to only use 3 images from the 10 images and really do not want to delete the other 7 images because they will be used other days.

Deleting the images is also not easy, I uploaded them several months ago and is there any way so I can delete them within the Header page instead of going through the media library?

Please help Really hope the next update could address this issue!

One more thing, the menu is expanding really fast (out of control?), any suggestions?

I noticed that Buddypress was loading contents of the header.php twice (most likely firing wp-header() twice), the second time inside the ‘body’ html tag and thus resulting in duplicated metas, scripts and stylesheets. For some reason it’s not loading properly the wp-footer() either, the footer.php appears truncated just before that.

I’m not entirely sure if WordPress SEO was the cause of the problem, however as a matter of fact after I deactivated it, the header duplicate was gone. I will send a message also in buddypress forums notifying the issue.
