i am trying to import from old wordpress to new, error message says files are too big. Hosting compnay has raised my memory to the max and still it doesnt work. They cant help neither can wp. Im not tecky at all so if anyone can help would be grateful!

I created my site on lovtoruin.wordpress.com and then bought lovetoruin.com and it won’t let me import the content over.

Also, it won’t let me change the header.

Is this a 1and1 issue?

Please advise.

i tried to upgrade to 2.5 by doing exactly what i did on 2 other WP sites but with this something went wrong and the site was inaccessible.
i uninstalled it through cpanel via Fantastico, which im hoping wasnt the kiss of death.

my WP blog used to be in (meaning it was installed into) a folder called ‘archives’. i have that folder and all its contents on my computer, but do i need more to get my site back with all its posts?
i also have fantastico’s backup which says its more than a month old, but that didnt work either. what i did to restore both was just to replace the existing folders with the backup folders.

what am i doing wrong?
did i lose all my posts or are they in this ‘archives’ folder?
what needs to be done?

Hi. Like many of you, I’ve been trying to import a WordPress.com blog to a newly created one I’m hosting myself. And like many, I’ve been pulling my hair out. For me, the export process works well. The function spits out an .xml file which I download to my desktop. The import part of the maneuver is where things go wrong. In the new blog, I’ve tried both importing a wordpress blog and importing an RSS feed. No go in either case after numerous attempts.
I downloaded the plugin for the import process and activated it. I’ve
tried the various tweaks (Chmod to content folder, etc.), but invariably, the function seems to try importing for five minutes before giving me the following error message:
“The proxy server received an invalid response from an upstream server. The proxy server could not handle the request POST -admin/admin.php. Reason: Error reading from remote server.”
I’m desperate to get this new blog set up. Has anyone found a workable solution to this? If somebody can pass along a clue, you’ll have my eternal worship.
