Sending emails from MailChimp crash website

This seems to make no sense to me, but cause and effect has confirmed that each time we send out our Newsletter to our 20,000 subscribers, from MailChimp, our site bogs down to a crawl and/or won’t load at all and gives a timeout error.

I fail to see how sending from MailChimp has any relationship to our site, but it happens every time. Once the email has finished sending, all is fine again, so it’s definitely related to sending it out.

Hoping someone has some insight into how this is possible.

I am new to WP and have installed the theme Mimbo to a test site before running it on my main one. Mimbo is a magazine-style theme and allows for images to be posted alongside the posts (Featured and Recent Posts) but I can’t seem to get that feature to work. Individual posts have the images, but they do not transfer through to the front page.

I need someone who is familiar enough with this type of theme, and problem, to walk me through fixing it.
