WordPress 4.2 clean install with utf8

Hello everyone.

I have a query if I’m doing right.

The database character set of WordPress 4.2 install is subject to the MySQL version, which means if we install WordPress below mysql 5.5.3, the db charset is utf8 and if above 5.5.3, utf8mb4. This is a nice progress. In Korea, the most shared web hosting services don’t support mysql over 5.5.3 mostly below 5.1. It doesn’t matter if we install WordPress directly in web hosting server, but in case we develop the site in localhost, the db charset is defined as utf8mb4. When I export the database, I can’t import it in the web hosting because of the error. Here are solutions I can think of.

Case 1

If I export it with custom option “Database system or older MySQL server to maximize output compatibility with: MYSQL40”, I can import in web hosting database but the charset is changed to euckr which is Korean basic charset and it works without any errors.

Case 2

If I export the database with utf8mb4 and replace it with utf8 in a text editor, and import it in web hosting, it works well.

Case 3

I installed the WordPress with the core changed only for a while in installing. There is a code which checks the mysql version in the file wp-db.php, line from 3041~3074 in the directory of includes. I changed the mysql version 5.5.3 to 6.0.0 which doesn’t exist yet. After I changed the code and installed the WordPress successfully, I changed the wp-db.php to the original. The db charset is utf8 and the DB_CHARSET of wp-config.php is also utf8 and the collation is utf8_general_ci in db. It works well without any errors.

Case 4

In this case the process is very normal. Install the WordPress in the version 4.1 and upgrade to 4.2 but It takes time.

The case 1 and 2 is for the user who already installed the WordPress 4.2 and the develop is almost done. The 3 and 4 is for the new install. I think the case 3 is best choice. Any feedback is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Ninja Forms affected by reCaptcha plugin?

Since Ninja Forms is firing an error, I am sharing this so maybe someone can figure what is going on when using it alongside reCaptcha plugin.

WordPress version: 4.2.2
Ninja Forms: 2.9.18

After submitting a form you get:

Warning: call_user_func_array() expects parameter 1 to be a valid callback, class 'Ninja_Forms_Recaptcha_Field' does not have a method 'ninja_forms_field_recaptcha_req_validation' in /home/mysite/public_html/wp-content/plugins/ninja-forms/includes/display/processing/req-fields-pre-process.php on line 79

The form has no special configuration, just a text field, a recapcha and a submit button, all default options in form are intact.

When I disable reCaptcha it gets working again.

What could be wrong now? Could you add a recaptcha feature in Ninja Forms?

Wp-admin blank page

Hi there,

After I log in my blog, the administration page is all white and blank: “https://mademoisellelek.com/wp-admin/”.
I can’t add posts and I can’t open any of my menus.
But I can see all the pages online of my blog.

In a previous forum (5 years ago and now closed), the answer was: “take a look at your functions.php file and make sure the are NO spaces at the top or bottom”. Where can I find the “functions.php file”???

WordPress 4.2 slower?

Has it seemed to anyone else that WP 4.2 is now running slower on the back end, particularly when interacting with the database? I know there have been reports with respect to specific plugins (WooCommerce IIRC), and I know the new version handles taxonomies differently as well as adding emojis and other elements not previously in it.

If there is some slowdown tradeoff that got factored in in exchange for other changes and improvements, are there workarounds?

Just trying to track down a post 4.2 problem that’s not obvious.

Ultimate No Follow Doesn't Work with WP 4.2.1 Update

I love this Plugin so I hope this gets resolved! I just updated to WordPress 4.2.1 (I was previously on 4.1 either 3 or 4). Anyway, I updated and was writing a post and suddenly the hyperlink function was broken. You could still open the box, insert the link, etc. But when you click Add Link no link appears. I tried to add links in the Text tab too and that didn’t work. So I then deactivated all my plugins and added them in one by one. Yes, it is unfortunately Ultimate No Follow that is causing this. I currently have all plugins EXCEPT UNF activated and I can add links just fine. Please fix this, I love the Ultimate No Follow plugin! Thanks for your help.

WP 4.2 compatible?

Your plugin looks like it would be perfect for the shelter web site that I manage, but all I get is a message saying “Petfinder is down for the moment. Please check back shortly.” It’s been this way for two days. I assume that this is because the plugin is not compatible with WP 4.2.1. Do you have plans to release a new version that is compatible? Thanks.

4.2 update & ssl: on plugin page directly opens connection information

Hello guys,

since I’ve updated to the last version of wordpress, I can’t access the plugin page anymore. The plugin overview page is covered with a connection information window, in which I need to put the FTP connection data. So far no problem, but when I click OK I am redirected to the frontpage. Therefore I’m not able to update, activate or deactivate plugins.

My website is running under SSL mode on a very restrictive server. Basically users from outside are not able to access wp-admin and wp-includes due to IP restrictions. May this be the problem?
