It’s exactly what I was looking for: The Elara theme is minimal in style yet has all necessary customizable functions and features, allowing your content to be the focus.
The developer is responsive and helpful if you have any questions.
Highly recommended!
]]>When I upload the full size vertical images to wordpress, I prefer to change to a custom size – 550×822 because this feels like a more comfortable, easier-to-view size for the post. When the custom-size image is viewed in the post editor and in preview mode it is crisp and clear looking. However, once I publish, it becomes blurry. On the link I included, look specifically at the last vertical image before the recipe card.
If I keep the original size it does not become blurry after publishing, however, it is just so ridiculously huge on the post it’s not realistic to keep vertical images this size.
I realize wordpress/kale theme is changing something but my question is can I do anything about it so that I don’t lose quality when making my images smaller? I am happy to upload a specific vertical size, but when experimenting this wasn’t working either.
]]>Help! Thanks!
]]>Either is preferable over what is being presented.
Example: https://162.144.54.1/wp-content/uploads/ss_vertical_category_images.jpg
I updated everything…theme, child theme and all plugins.
Note: I did try flipping out themes and the problem persists. See screen shot of Site with Twenty Thirteen theme: https://162.144.54.1/wp-content/uploads/ss_vertical_category_images_20-13.jpg.
Twenty Thirteen By the WordPress team In this example the catalog images ares smaller in scale than in the Bazar theme but the probelm at hand is the same.
Vertical dominant images still do not crop to the size specified under Woo Commerce…Settings…Products.
In this case: These should be cropped to 254×203px, Hard Crop checked.
Next: I deactivated all plugins except for Woo Commerce and CSV Import Suite. I then imported the attached spread sheet file.
Note: It generated these two products:

(NOT CROPPED)

(Cropped)
The question is why did one crop and not the other?
Summary: images crop if it is a horizontal dominant image but not a vertical dominant image
All catalog images should crop to size. That is what is selected, that is what should happen and it doesn’t.
NOTE: the Theme Developer provided this reply (however this does not resolve the issue)
I think I found the problem. As you said the vertical dominant images are not cropped but this happen because the with of the image is less then the minimum required by wordpress, not by the theme.
WordPress don’t crop images that are less then ( in this case for catalog ) 254x203px
I made some test, and if you look now at this catalog page there are three products within it.
The second product has set an image that is 527x990px and is cropped correctly, there is also appended on the url of the image the cropped size. ( see screenshot cropped_image.png ).
Url of the original image: https://162.144.54.1/wp-content/uploads/image_test_2.png
Now, take a look at the third product, the image is not cropped ( not_cropped_image.png ) because the size of the original image is 173×480.
Url of the original image: https://162.144.54.1/wp-content/uploads/image_test.jpg
images that are not at least greater then the max size of the sizes defined into woocommerce settings is what is triggering this problem.
