Using/Uploading WordPress

Hello! This may seem like a dumb question, and I ask that you please forgive me if it is.. When using WordPress, am I supposed to upload the file that I extracted to the FTP program for my website? I ask, because I am attempting to customize the template so that it won’t display headers, footers, and etc. All that I want is a simple grid pattern, which displays the most recent post at the top of the page, and the rest side-by-side in rows of two with the option to comment, along with the archives category so that my readers may review old posts. I am using an IFRAME layout with a very large custom graphic as the header, and would like to place my WordPress page inside of the IFRAME itself, which is why it is important that the page only display my writings, archives, categories, and etc. Any information that you can provide would be greatly appreciated. I truly thank you for taking the time to help me with this problem, and look forward to your response!

Easiest way to d/l, edit, and then u/l WordPress?

Is there an VERY EASY way to do this?

I searched, but didn’t find any mention of how to migrate an existing LIVE WordPress site to my local drive for developing. I’m talking about making a lot of developments offline, using my live site as a starting point. Then, after making the changes, uploading it back to my host to go live again.

Certainly, by this time, there is an application to assist with that. Isn’t there?

Cannot get installation to work

Trying to build a new website in wordpress without overwriting an existing one that lives on another host.

1) I’ve logged into the new cPanel and created a new MySQL database, user and password. I then downloaded WordPress to my computer. I want to upload it and store it in new folder, for example www.mynewsite.com/new – to keep from overwriting the existing site. Will this work?

2) My other question is I have no idea where or what to upload the files to? I thought it was via an ftp site- I have a temporary ftp host so I uploaded the wordpress files there but when I go to the website and bring up www.mynewsite.com/new nothing shows up to continue with the install and login.

What am I missing or not doing – I know it’s gotta be something simple I’m not figuring out…

Uploading WordPress from Dreamweaver

Hi! I am trying upload WordPress from Dreamweaver. After working on a MAMP server (testing server) doing edits to WordPress, I am syncing and here is the message I am receiving:

Error establishing a database connection

This either means that the username and password information in your wp-config.php file is incorrect or we can’t contact the database server at localhost. This could mean your host’s database server is down.

Are you sure you have the correct username and password?
Are you sure that you have typed the correct hostname?
Are you sure that the database server is running?

If you’re unsure what these terms mean you should probably contact your host. If you still need help you can always visit the WordPress Support Forums.”

None of the proposed errors are the case. I should have a screen that allows me to configure my database, etc.

FYI – I am leaving out the wp-config.php file on the upload. That was the training I received from Lynda.com

Trying to Switch from blogger to www.remarpro.com

Hello,
I’m trying to switch from blogger to www.remarpro.com. I have bought a domain through blogger, switch to hostgartor as my new host server and not enom.

I have read alot of post on how to switch over by export the file from blogger. I understand that part. What I don’t get is how to install the wordpress file it self? I have enter in the url section www.yourdomain.com/wp-admin/install.php and it tells me that this link is not found and I can’t create a wordpress blog with my domain.

Do I have to change something in blogger like change back to my www.domain.blogspot.com in order for me to create a wordpress blog? Or is there something else that I’m missing to do?

Can someone help me with this Thanks
