Hi,

I installed and extensively modified the style.css of Sliding Door (SD) 2.3.1 and it is currently running on WP 3.2.1

I didn’t understand child themes back then and SD only had the Black version.

So, I just basically hacked the style.css to render a White SD theme. I haven’t done any upgrading since then, because I knew I’d have to do a lot of CSS work to produce a child theme as well as whatever else might go wrong in an upgrade.

Now, 5+ yrs later, I need to move the site to a different host and Updraft doesn’t move the WP part, and needs a WP environment on the new server to do it the Updraft way (the easy way). I figured that meant it was a darn good time to upgrade everything prior to the move and have a fresh WP 4.6 on the new machine to restore the Updraft backup on.

So, reading here, I see that I should upgrade SD first. Since there is now a White SD, I figured I could upgrade and then switch to the White SD, then do the WP upgrade to 4.6. all on the current server.

Then, do the Updraft thing and put it on the fresh install of WP 4.6 on the new server. Then, do my child theme stuff, on the new machine. Since it will be White, it won’t take as long to do the child theme, I’m thinking.

Sounds like a plan, right? Is it a good plan? What is likely to go wrong? What do I need to watch out for?

Upgrading SD 2.3.1 to 3.2.4
Upgrading WP 3.2.1 to 4.6

NextGen not working since update to wp3.92 and nextgen 2.0.66.16

Updated WP to 3.92 and NextGen to 2.0.66.16 and site has died:
maryclaredesign.com.au

Activated twentythirteen theme and no change.
Deactivated other plugins and no change.

We’re using:

MySQL 5.5.31
PHP 5.3.26
mod_rewrite Apache module is ENABLED
PHP Safe Mode OFF? (that feature has been deprecated as of PHP 5.3.0)
Last version of NextGen written in our file was 1.9.12

When I try to upgrade to WP 3.5.1 (or install/upgrade any plugins), I get this error message:

Thumbnails missing after 3.1.2 upgrade

Everytime I update WP it breaks something in the Theme code. The actual image files are where they are pointed to, but I think the Lightbox gets broken. I have tried to reinstall Lightbox via FTP or auto install and WP 3.1.2 does not see it or cannot install it.

As my theme has a parent and child theme, the theme is not touched during update to WP. I would like to know the changes being made on each update of WP before I update it to know if it will break things or not.

Any ideas where I can find the change logs to maybe find out where to look for this bug?

This is the message that appear when I’m trying to update my WP blog version to 3.1.3

But I didn’t use the disc space available on my hosting.

Someone can give me some infos?

Best Practice For Page Templates

My question is, will customized page templates stored in the main theme folder be erased when you upgrade WordPress?
If so does that suggest that the best practice is to put new page templates in the ‘child theme’ folder?

I have been facing this error on one of my blogs:

When I ftp into the Upgrade directory, and delete whatever is there, then repeat the upgrade process, the upgrade works. The same is true whether I am upgrading my version of WordPress or a plugin. I do not have this problem in my other blogs. Any thoughts?

Hi I’m upgrading my site with wp2.7. Apparently themes do not support 2.7 so i change it into default. however now (after reload) there was warning as below
Warning: is_dir() [function.is-dir]: Stat failed for /home/md/public_html/wp-content/themes/.. (errno=13 – Permission denied) in /home/md/public_html/wp-includes/theme.php on line 261

and then you cannot see the site… I have tried to upload new themes thru ftp and also upload and rename current themes but still nothing.
