Pb when upgrading plugin from 1.8.4.7 to 1.5.x

We are using the plugin since several years without any problem.
Recently we upgrade the plugin from 1.8.4.7 verion to 1.5.0 then 1.5.1 version.
After this upgrade our galleries are no more corrects :
– With the 1.8.4.7 : Galleries are OK.
– With the 1.8.5.x : Galleries are KO => overlapping of the images.
It is certainly related to one of the modifications introduced in the 1.5.0 version but which one ?
– Improve sanitization.
– Remove legacy code.
– Replace local scripts with WordPress core scripts.
It is certainly not related to the 1.5.1 version which just correct a variable name : $image_siz to $image_size (line 1550 of shortcode.php).

So for the time being we revert to the 1.8.4.7 version.

If needed we can send you screenshots of what is get with :
– the 1.8.4.7 version (galleries are corrects)
– the 1.8.5.x version (galleries are not corrects)

Upgrade plugins from WP dashboard don't work

Until now, I always upgrade plugins manually (with copy plugin folder to server).
Previous week I tried to use upgrade feature in WP Dashboard, but it failed. The upgrade process started and finished, but it didn’t work.
I checked folders on server and noticed that folder name isn’t correct.
For example – instead of BACKUPWORDPRESS there was a folder with name BACKUPWORDPRESS-RD934 (or something similar).
Any idea what is wrong?

WordPress needs to access my web server error?

Recently some of my plugins on my dashboard state that there is a new version of it. If gives me the option to upgrade automatically and when I click on the link to upgrade I get the following:

To perform the requested action, WordPress needs to access to your web server. Please enter your FTP credentials to proceed. If you do not remember your credentials, you should contact your web host.

Why am I getting this error? I’ve never got this message before.

I have been facing this error on one of my blogs:

When I ftp into the Upgrade directory, and delete whatever is there, then repeat the upgrade process, the upgrade works. The same is true whether I am upgrading my version of WordPress or a plugin. I do not have this problem in my other blogs. Any thoughts?

When I click the Plugin’s “Upgrade Automatically” link, it just stays at Downloading Update from https://xxxxxxxxxxx. It does not go any further.

My webserver did not allow uploads, until I changed the wp-config.php file to the following after which it started upgrading.

I am using the wp-simpleviewer plugin on a client’s site. I want to use a modified version of the plugin (described and linked in this thread), but when I install it, the wp-simpleviewer configuration pages are blank.

Could this be because it’s not compatible with 2.8? If so, is there a way I can manually upgrade the plugin so that it is compatible? I don’t know how to contact the author of the modification, so I thought I’d give it a shot.
