I’m now planning on combining all my sites into sort of an encyclopedia that functions something like Wikipedia. I won’t delete the other sites; rather, articles will be available at the original URL and at the new location on MySite/Geopedia.
To get to the point, I’m wondering if it’s time to upgrade to a CMS, like WordPress or Drupal. I have a thousand questions and will have to download and install both and play with them a while. But here’s one question I’d like to ask now…
I have a pretty big series of database tables with articles about a wide variety of topics – mammals, birds, plants, symbols, politics and on and on. If I want to upgrade my sites to WordPress, am I going to have to modify these DB tables, or do I need to let WordPress create new tables, then copy the articles from my original tables to the new database?
I think I need to retain a series of tables, rather than put all my content in one table because of size limits. I tried importing a local table into my online database recently and got a message that it was too big. (I’m using PHP and MySQL, by the way.)
Sorry for the rambling question. I’d just like to have a better idea of what lies ahead for my particular project. Thanks!
P.S. My primary website is www.geobop.org (soon to change to www.geobop.com), and you can see an example of one of its child sites at www.geosymbols.org/World/Arizona.

The initial installation has not been modified.
I emailed tech support at my hosting company and had the following reply
This is normally caused by a bad install of a script or a damaged database, you need to double check that
the authors of wordpress have not reported any problems with the upgrade on thier own support forum
Regards,
To date, there has been no errors or problems with the preconfigured installation and and I cannot find anything here on the support forum which would answer this problem.
Any advice people?
With thanks

]]>For example when I upgraded from 2.2.3 to 2.3 I have a few issues with a database error relating to categories. It was not after spending time on the forums and reading a few when I thought that the issues may have been due an incompatible plug-in. I deactivated all of my plugins and the reactivated each one to see which one(s) were causing issues.
In the future it would be nice when upgrading to provide a such information as:
Release Log – stating what file(s) are being added or modified
Known Issues – Issues that are know at the time of the release and any work around that may resolve the issue. This may include plug-ins that are no longer compatible, listing of error messages that may be encountered in regard to the upgrade, how to solve the error messages, and issues with platforms, servers, and Operating systems.
Any testing – Including the results of the test.
Issue / Change log – I know there is a nightly build section and the forums. However it would be nice if there was an area for user to log an issue, see the status of the issue, and see what other users have encountered it instead of having to troll through the forums to find it. It could be as simple of putting it into an MS Excel workbook for download.
Hopefully 2.4 will be much smoother and more understandable on how to upgrade it.
All I am trying to ask for is more clarity in release documentation so that if a problem is encountered it is in one area, the user does not have to spend a lot of time trolling through the forums, and does not have to read all of the messages on their dashboard to locate the information to trouble shoot their problem.
]]>Does anyone know what changes if any I can make to this themes files in order to get it working with the newer version of WordPress? I tried asking the themes author for help but he can’t be bothered unless I pay a consultation fee. Uh sorry, that ain’t gonna happen (this was made available as a free theme). Any help on this would be much appreciated, I really want to save this lovely theme! Thanks.
