I’m sure this has been already covered somewhere but I’m not sure what to search to find it.
Can someone link me to a post explaining how to update all the links in the database so I have nice clean URLs once we’re live? Also the best practise order/process to make it go smoothly.
Many thanks,
Herb.
I’m getting a bit confused over whether my urls in links etc have changed or not!
This is the scenario:
1. I have a pre-existing install in it’s own folder/directory with the site url and wp home url the same = https://mysite.com/myblog
2. I’ve just changed it using the guidelines for GWIOD “Using a pre-existing subdirectory install’; so now my settings are site url = https://mysite.com and wp home url = https://mysite.com/myblog
3. All seems to be working properly.
4. ?? need to change/update urls??
So now do I need to run the Velvet Blues url updater to change all my urls from the old url to the new one? Or are they the same, just appear different in a browser url?
Appreciate any help on this.
Many thanks, j
]]>An internal server error occurred. Please try again later.
I can replicate it consistently every time I try to use the option, and all other options it consistently works (except I have not tried the “Update ALL GUIDs” option). I should note that I do not get an error on my local XAMPP dev instance.
I did try Justin Greer’s code in the “You guys will update the plugin or what?” support thread and it did not work. I also followed his advice saying the WP_DEBUG option in the wp-config.php file should be FALSE.
Any ideas? Thanks!

]]>Thank you for the plugin. It works well however I have discovered that I can’t update the root domain with Search and Replace Urls Plugins or in phpmyadmin using sql commands.
When I push my dev site to my live server the urls found in the visual editor do not update no matter what I do.
Why is this? Is the code in the Visual / Text Editor serialized?
How can this be fixed?
Thanks
Netivity

]]>For example, I did a test and made my development site https://www.example.com/wpdev live by following those instructions “Using a pre-existing subdirectory install”. I simply changed the wp site URL in general settings, put a copy of the index and htaccess file in the above root folder (and tweaked index.php to require the subdirectory), updated permalinks and viola: everything works including my links to my attachments in posts.
The trouble is the wordpress codex says:
f you already have content in your site, see when your domain name or URLs change for how to deal with references to the old URL that will remain in the database.
and
When your domain name or URLs change – i.e. from https://example.com/site to https://example.com, or https://example.com to https://example.net – there are additional concerns. The files and database can be moved, however references to the old domain name or location will remain in the database, and that can cause issues with links or theme display.
Curiously however, when I actually “update the URLs in the database” using a dedicated plugin, then it breaks some of my links. Note, I update all the tables except the options table as this has the wp home url link which should remain as example.com/wpdev/
I actually think this topic is one of the more unclear parts of the WordPress Codex. That is when do you actually need to update URLs.
Perhaps I don’t understand the difference in effects between hardcoded links and non-hardcoded links properly?
I would really appreciate some clarity on this. Thanks!
]]>Issue: When editing (scaling or cropping) an existing image in the Library, the updated image is not displayed. The original image is fine; the edit is missing.
When a new file is uploaded to the library, the jpg file is uploaded successfully, but the image is not displayed.
In both cases, the image cannot be inserted into a page successfully.
Any advice appreciated. This is a serious issue for any future mods to the site.

]]>I was hoping for some help please.
I have recently changed my domain from elliottwavemarketservice.com to elliottwaveanalytics.com and have set the new default domain accordingly.
Further, I have also used the velvet blues plugin to update all links etc to the new domain within the website.
However, I still continue to have a problem with both the page and category menu links which refuse to point to the new domain and continue to point to the old domain.
I haven’t any idea how to resolve this problem in order that these important home page links point to the correct and new domain rather than continuing to the old domain.
I am using ‘one theme’ for the site.
Any assistance or guidance would be greatly appreciated.
and I use this plugin will it change the above link to:
https://www.newdomain.com/link.jpg
or does it remove everything and just leave you with the URL instead?
I just don’t want to have to go through the whole site fixing things.
Any help would be great
