Web site operating on latest versions of Plugins, themes and WordPress.

Any suggestions gratefully received

So i tried going directly to “update-core.php” but that could not be accessed.

==> Error: “Sorry, you are not allowed to access this page.”

Then i also noticed that the menu item updates and add plugins had disappeared. I can’t access “plugin-install.php”.
==> There i also get this error of not being allowed to access.

– wordpress 5.4.1 installed
– Clearfy version 1.6.6 installed
– My account is an admin.
– We are hosting the site on our own webserver
– php 7.4.
– The files have 644 permission.
– In Db (mysql) i have admin capabilities for my user.

I also tried as fix:
– deativated all plugins & logged off & clear cache ==> no improvement.
– Even login on other browser => no improvement.
– Even renaming the clearfy folder in plugins is not a fix.

At the moment I am unable to add plugins or install plugins or install wordpress updates.

There must be some permissions settings that have been modified to not allow access to these wordpress admin pages

After performing some updates on a few plugins, my site stopped allowing me to do any changes. Now, when I try to access the website it requests me to download a file that says as follows:

I’ve deactivated the plugins via FTP, as well as updating wordpress via FTP except for wp-config and wp-content.

I host several WP websites on the same server. All of them with the exception of one, show the needed plugin and themes updates when they are available – as expected.

The one website in question, doesn’t show me any updates are available including the latest WP 5.0 build. I currently have 4.9.8 installed and it says I have the latest version installed.

I enabled WP_DEBUG and now see the following on the Updates page:

Any idea what is going on? I disabled all plugins and I still have the same issue.

If I try to force a “Re-install Now”, I just get a blank screen, but I don’t see any errors.

Any suggestions?

I’ve since manually updated wordpress to 4.8.3, but I still would like to fix this so that I can update all my plugins and my theme.

Please help!

Auto updates don’t work, if i manually press “Update now”, then

it’s the wrong path. Folder wp-admin is on the same level with folder wordpress.
In options.php upload path is correct /var/www/html/wp-content/uploads.

Whole directory with wordpress installed have permissions 777, owner www-data.

Need help, where should i search an error?

Updated via SSH and still getting a lot of errors after enabling wp debug.
