Rolling back the plugin to version 2.10.5 fixed the issues. Everything is working fine now.
Can you find o fix for this issue? I would like to be able to update the plugin. Thank you!

Looks a mess!

I turned on wp debug mode as well and created a php-error.log file according to 1st method at https://digwp.com/2009/07/monitor-php-errors-wordpress/ to see if that would help me find an error, but I get no errors.

– I do not get a white screen, but my site only loads in partially.

– If I disable the problem snippet, the site works fine.

– Also, if I enable the problem snippet, then remove all the code from the snippet then save, the site works fine. But once I place the snippet code back in, the site breaks again.

I have gone through line-by-line, removing one line at a time, and the site stays broken until I remove the very last line of code from that snippet (except for the last line – caldera forms shortcode).

This makes me believe that this new version does not allow woody snippet shortcodes inside another woody snippet. Is this true? If so, this is a real pity as it worked so well as it was before with these nested snippets.

I really need help on this matter.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled but nothing will work.

Please add an option within settings to disable auto-updates on this plugin.

The plugin updated itself with the 1.9.9.8.2 shortly after midnight in my time zone. It broke the site — the home page produced a 500 error with wordpress error log showing:

PHP Fatal error: Call to undefined method WPSS_Utils::is_plugin_active() in /home/..../wp-content/plugins/wp-spamshield/includes/class.utils.php on line 179

Once I figured out the problem I was able to restore function by disabling and re-enabling the software — but by then the site had been down for an hour– and it would have been much longer if I had not become aware of the problem. (Because, you know, some people go to sleep late at night).

You recommend clearing all caches with an update and that is something I can only do if know the updated has been passed through. So auto-updates are bound to cause problems with this program, at least on sites using caching.

I found this article: https://www.redsandmarketing.com/plugins/wp-spamshield/faqs/?faqs=16#faqs_16 – where you recommend installing another plugin to control auto-updates — but I shouldn’t have to install a different plugin to prevent this one from breaking my site.

Given that updates of this plugin frequently cause site function problems that are detailed in your troubleshooting guide, it seems to me to that you should not be using the wordpress auto-update API by default, but at least give users a choice.

Now it is 2 am for me but instead of going to bed I have to check all my other sites using wp-spamshield to make sure this problem does not recur on other sites.

I’ve been using TwentyFifteen for sometime. Suddenly, the left sidebar menu is not working ie not the sub-menu shoot-outs ie Menu Tree should be:

Professional Services
….>>Cleaning Services
…………>>Auto Division
…………>>Commercial Cleaning
….>>Hygiene Services

Etc. When you click on Professional Cleaning, the sub-menus should appear – this is not happening anymore although I’ve checked the structure on the back end.

Site is cleaningafrica.co.za Please can you help? None of my searches seem to have provided any solutions.
