I have installed latest version of WP 4.1 to try and resolve an earlier issue which was that I could not install new themes because there was no button to allow this and there is not add new plugin button either.
I have screenshots to show the plugins page – I had deactivated the plugins but that made no difference. https://firstoneon.com/images/plugins.jpg
Also screenshot of themes page showing no option to add new or upload new. https://firstoneon.com/images/themes.jpg
The site is at blog.firstoneon.com

]]>WP 2.9.2, Nextgen Gallery 1.5.3, Wootheme = Canvas.
Several issues:
The symptoms flip between states (1) and (2) below:
(1) When I try to put a gallery theme and tag into a blog post, it is not visible in the published post. It will show up in the preview post however.
(2) When I change the embedded nggallery tag in the post sometimes the preview will not work. But when it doesn’t work, then the gallery shows up in the published post.
example tag which makes this happen…..
[nggallery id=2 template=carousel images=6]
So the nggallery is in one or the other, but never both! I think that maybe every time I try the carousel theme tag, then it messes up something. Then, it seems to get stuck in this state where preview of post will nto function. I then had to deactivate the plugin and I also hit “reset” on the quick post button on the dashboard page.
Other issue:
(3) The gallery shows up on my home page. However, if I try to change gallery themes, it does nto seem to change on the home page. It seems it is stuck at the NGgallery theme. I have loaded the nggallery themes into the/wp-content/themes/canvas/nggallery/ directory. Is there some option parameter that I have to load this path into?
Any ideas what could be causing these issues? Something is definitely not working correctly.
Thanks,
RK

How to Install WordPress 2.7 through Cpanel video tutorial
The root of my problems was unzipping the wordpress files on my computer and then ftp-ing them to the server. Instead, the video shows how to properly set up the database and user in C-panel AND upload the zipped file to your sever and unzip/extract it there.
Deleted all files from the server, retaining my wp-config.php file. After the files were extracted, I uploaded the wp-config.php file. Using this method made all the files extract with the proper permission codes. Themes are loading … and all is well in my world.
