I configured own web page using WordPress 6.7.1 (It is running on Synology DS224+ with DSM7.2.2).
All pages were working OK when I kept default Permalinks structure = “Plain”.
But If I change Permalink structure = “Post name”, I have a problems:
I do not have any .htaccess file existing in wordpress directory (where wp-config.php or index.php are located).
I tried to save, change permalinks, resave, but no .htaccess file is created.
I tried to create manualy this file .htaccess with following content, but didn’t help:
# BEGIN WordPress
RewriteEngine On RewriteBase / RewriteRule ^index.php$ – [L] RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d RewriteRule . /index.php [L]
# END WordPress
I tried restarted WebStation with PHP and Apache and nothing help…
I was checking permissions on directory, but looks ok.
I also disabled all plugins in WP, but this didn’t help.
I tried to use “Redirection” plugin to fix 404 errors, but didn’t help.
I read a lot of forums, but did not find solution…
Could you please help how to get working my page with different Permalinks, not with “Plain”. (Is working with “Plain”).
]]>I have a website, and a WordPress install on it in a subfolder. I’m hosted on Dreamhost.
I installed ActivityPub and set it up okay, but can’t find the account @thebka@kendama.co.uk via Mastodon.
I installed webfinger. Site Health shows an error: “WebFinger endpoint is not accessible”.
My site has a /.well-known/ folder in the root. There is no /.well-known/ folder in the subfolder (the root of the WP install).
I’ve searched and read quite a few threads around this problems, but I’ve found it confusing, and I don’t know if it’s a problem with .well-known, or with Dreamhost, or with .htaccess or some combination or something else. (I also don’t know if this should be in the ActivityPub forum or the Webfinger forum. Apologies it’s in the wrong place.)
I have another site (entirely different URL), also on Dreamhost, with a WP which is hosted on a subdomain, and ActivityPub (without webfinger) gets that one on to the fediverse fine.
Given that I don’t want to move the problem WP to a subdomain, but leave it in its subfolder, can you please advise how to get this WP to appear on the fediverse?
Thanks.
If I purposely put in the incorrect password for this user when prompted – I would not arrive at the screenshot show in this post as it will tell me that it is incorrect. I also checked the permissions of the user on my NAS and do not see why the directory would be “unwriteable”. Again, the plugin installations and deletions work as intended.
Any ideas why I am getting this error and cannot install the free license.
Thanks for any help.
Ant.
****rest api error****
The REST API is one way that WordPress and other applications communicate with the server. For example, the block editor screen relies on the REST API to display and save your posts and pages.
When testing the REST API, an unexpected result was returned:
REST API Endpoint: https://grandpops.collinsho.myds.me/wp-json/wp/v2/types/post?context=edit
REST API Response: (404) Not Found
Is there a way that the Malware scanner could be configured to ignore these files automatically? If not, could I request that as an enhancement to be able to enter file name masks to skip?
Many thanks, Nigel
]]>I am trying to restore the files on WP v6.1 and it’s all successful BUT it downgraded WP to v5.8.
The issue is that I’m self-hosting on Synology NAS and that doesn’t allow automatic upgrade to v6.1 yet.
So my only option is manually install 6.1 and the restore the website.
Is there a way to restore using Updraft without downgrading WP version?
Thank you very much for any advice.
Update:
I tried manual restoration following the below guide, first wiped MariaDB database, imported DB from the previous DB export.
After all that the site wouldn’t load due to some critical issue with the website – didn’t write down the exact message but it’s usually when the database is messed up.
]]>I spent literally entire week Googling and trying to figure out how we can use our own domain for a WordPress running on Synology DSM 7.x and remove ‘wordpress’ from the URL.
I have my domain leading to wordpress site, but only with wordpress in the URL:
‘domainname.com/wordpress ‘
Like so many, I would like to access my site as: ‘domainname.com’, without the ‘wordpress’ addition in the URL.
I have found quite a posts how it should work but I believe all those guides were written prior to DSM 7.
If I understand correctly, after DSM 7 launched, the web root folder got moved to a web_packages folder. And that is where (at least I think) all these guides fail as they explain what to do within the ‘web‘ folder but there’s no reference to ‘web_packages’ folder.
Here are just some of the links, all of which I followed and tried but I was unable to access my site without seeing wordpress in the URL:

How to Host a WordPress Website on a Synology NAS!
I am going crazy after so many hours and no luck.

I know you cannot see that – however… if you goto my site at the public address:
https://4andahalf.farm/
I have my hosting company perform a stealth redirect to:
https://4andahalf.ddns.net/wordpress
Which is my no-ip.com domain that updated my WAN IP because I do not have a static address.
So my scan of my site states:
Detected status of your setup.
You have the required PHP version to continue.
SSL certificate should be generated and installed.
The PHP function CURL has successfully been detected.

I have checked the username & password – they do make authenticated bind to the LDAP server from other clients
