I’m getting ‘cURL error 60: SSL certificate problem: certificate has expired’ error when trying to update plugins from zip file.

I’ve contacted my hosting provider and that was their response:

We've had a few reports of this today - It seems Let's Encrypt have deployed a change to their CA Bundle Setup that will be affecting older browsers and OS setups -

It's possible the plugin isn't accommodating for this with it's checks and, as a result, is seeing an expired CA bundle when checking the SSLs hence the insecure connection despite it loading fine when you test or when checked via something like SSL Shopper.

I'd recommend checking with MainWP just to confirm if there's anything that can be done their side to get the correct root CA with their checks.

There has been an error with the API: There has been an error with your request: cURL error 60: SSL certificate problem: unable to get local issuer certificate

It’s been working perfectly for several years now and just started over the past 24 hours. I have checked with my host LiquidWeb and the SSL certificate is up to date, we have PHP 7.4 and everything else up to date.

They seem to be at a loss on this error as I am.

Tried doing it on a live testing subdomain, and it worked. so I’m going to give an educated guess that it just doesn’t work on the local environment. (WAMP) php is 5.6.25. MYSQL 5.7.14.

I contacted my host but they are looking into it and seem maybe not sure what to do so thought I would post here.

De plugin is uitgeschakeld omdat de verbinding met de API mislukt is. Vergeet niet om de plugin opnieuw in te schakelen eens u de goede referenties ingesteld heeft

SSL certificate problem: unable to get local issuer certificate

I have looked at the forums and have seen the posts about replacing the ca-bundle.crt file in the wp/includes directory. I have attempted a few versions of this file – but am still getting the problem.

Incidentally – I have tested with two of the sites I manage – and they both get the issue. The one site is an https site running WP 4.5.2 (has an wildcard SSL certificate & dedicated IP). The other site is running WP 4.4.3 and does not have an SSL certificate. They both get the exact same problem.

I’m using WordPress 4.3 and am unable to update any plugins or themes and get the following message when I try:

Download failed.: SSL certificate problem: unable to get local issuer certificate

I installed the plugins originally by uploading their respective zip files, which I downloaded from each vendor’s site.

The message indicates there’s a problem with the SSL certificate but using sslchecker, https://www.sslshopper.com/ssl-checker.html, there appears to be no problem with the installed Comodo SSL certificate.
