Severe Performance Issue: 15+ Second TTFB – Render-Blocking and Slow LCP

I am experiencing a severe performance issue on my website that seems to be related to the “Grand Tour” theme and its handling of CSS. After extensive performance testing, I have identified a critical bottleneck that is causing extremely slow page load times, particularly a very high Time to First Byte (TTFB).

I use WebPageTest, Google PageSpeed Insights, and GTmetrix, I consistently see a TTFB of over 15 seconds for the following request:

admin-ajax.php?action=grandtour_custom_css

I am new to WordPress and web development in general.

Any ideas how I can solve this? I did find that in W3 Total Cache pro version the ability to “Eliminate render-blocking CSS by moving it to HTTP body” but I really don’t want to pay for the pro version unless I have to

I want to remove unused CSS, JS and render-blocking issues from page speed when I checked speed. I am using Debloat for resolving this issues but when i enable Defer Javascript option my site gets spoiled images not loading. I have screenshots please check this.

“default.inlcude” css cached and blocking

Hi,

I have noticed render blocking css (2 sec.) but to my surprise it was a cached version by w3 total, added to manual minify (all templates, combine & minify).

A current example is this css:

https://www.pflanzkompass.at/wp-content/cache/minify/34f44.default.include.fe675d.css

It shows up in the console and is reported as render blocking by speed tests. There was another such example (also render blocking) which has resolved after it had been removed from minify. So the problem is sort of repeatable, although I do not understand why it affects only certain css.

What could be the reason for this behavior?

Critical css create another css file

Hi there,

Once I’ve checked ‘Eliminate render-blocking CSS’ and pasted my critical CSS, I end up with a new CSS file autoptimize_81304[…].css, in addition to the autoptimize_single_c66c[…].css file. The Pagespeed performance score drops by 10 points. I assume I haven’t configured it correctly, can you help me?

Asynchronous CSS & JS Files Still Render-Blocking

Troubles:

CSS & JS files placed in the ‘Exclude from Processing’ and ‘Load Asynchronously‘ fields within WP-Optimize continue to be render-blocking.

I ran GTMetrix on a WooCommerce site I am building. It was an A but has dropped to a C. One of the areas it says I need to work on is ‘Render Blocking Resources’. They recommend another caching plugin. Can you give me some ideas on settings to look at to improve this? The biggest offenders are .css files.

I’m using the latest version of the MonsterInsights plugin, and it’s causing render-blocking with Google because of this element:

I had a professional help set up Autoptimize (as well as WP SuperCache) several months ago, but recently my site is getting low PageSpeed ratings. Render-blocking issues are the biggest culprit, with a big LCP.
I thought I might try to inline “above the fold CSS” as per the FAQ.
I loaded my website URL into the sitelocity Critical Path CSS Generator, which generated four files (Unminified Combined CSS, Minified Combined CSS, Unminified Critical CSS, and Minified Critical CSS)
The Autoptimize Critical CSS tab gives instructions for using an API Key, but I was hoping to try it manually first. Which of the four files would I use? Do I select “Add New Rule”, “Edit Default Rule CSS”, or “Add CSS to All Rules”?
