Why can't isn't Plugins available as an option??

I’m very new to this, and I had this site set up about 6 months ago and am just now starting to utilize it.

i want to add a pop up window when people first come to my site, and I was told that in order to do that I needed to go to plugins, but plugins is not there to use for me.

I see posts, media, links, pages, comments, grid options, contact, profile, tools and easy social share buttons.

So, can anyone help me?? Why isn’t that an option for me?? I was told if I install mail chimp I would be able to install the popup under plug in, and after I installed mail chimp it still isn’t working.

HELP!

I want the Social Media links on my header (Facebook, Tumblr, and LinkedIn) to pop up in a new window when clicked. Here’s my link.

I am using the theme “Syntax” and had to activate the buttons through the Sharing option on WordPress.

I posted this question earlier and did not get a response, looking for a plug in that provides pop up windows, more than one on a page, easy to configure. So went back to my roots, html and java, and played with this for much of the afternoon, trying different things. Finally have what I want, and it’s actually pretty ez, thought I’d share. This is my blog and the dino skulls have nothing to do with it, just pictures I pulled from a client’s web site, they were handy.

Blank Pop-up window showing on front page of my blog

I’ve got a blank pop-up window displaying when I go on the blog and every time I click on a new article or page.
Before this, I had a problem with my sidebar going to the bottom of the page, and after that suddenly went away, this blank pop-up window came up. Not sure if they’re related.
I’ve never used pop-up windows before and it seems really random. I don’t mess around with css and try not to download too many plugins. Any help would be much appreciated!

visual editor errors

hi all-

have a few weird things happening in my editor:

1. when i manually enter multiple categories separated by commas, after i click add only the first category gets selected and the rest get discarded.

2. whenever i click one of the editor buttons that opens a pop-up (insert link, image properties, paste plain text/MS word), the pop-up window opens and an html file download is started.

ideas?

Pop-Up Photo Galleries?

I’m putting together a newspaper style website using WordPress as the engine of the site (and a WP-Zoom theme). In the sidebar, I have a conditional sidebar module which lists multimedia components to the page based using custom fields. It’s easy to link to stuff that’s off-site or not uploaded to WordPress, but photo galleries are giving me a problem.

What I’m looking for is a plugin or anything that will let me open a gallery in either a pop-up window or a lightbox/thickbox/etc equivalent WITHOUT inserting a bunch of thumbnails at the bottom of the post. Ideally, I could put a text link in a sidebar and activate it like that. The idea is to make this as idiot proof as possible because I have to keep in mind that the people using this system won’t all be terribly computer savvy.

In the past, I’ve used the CSS visibility property to hide the thumbnails, but that’s a pain in the ass and a bad solution. It also doesn’t solve my problem of wanting the link to be in the sidebar.

Any advice?

pop pages and links in new window

hey guys –
Is there a way to have wordpress pop a new window when one clicks
on any of the different pages or links??? Would prefer they stay
on my home page (underneath), rather than getting lost in other pages on my site and other sites (the links)….
