My ISP provided the following:
“[error] [client 141.135.174.223] PHP Parse error: syntax error, unexpected ‘.’, expecting ‘,’ or ‘;’ in /home/XXX/public_html/wp-content/plugins/page-views-count/admin/admin-ui.php on line 37”
I had to manually removed the plugin and the site went back online. When I tried to reinstall from a fresh download WP gave me the same message:
“Plugin could not be activated because it triggered a fatal error.
Parse error: syntax error, unexpected ‘.’, expecting ‘,’ or ‘;’ in /home/XXX/public_html/wp-content/plugins/page-views-count/admin/admin-ui.php on line 37”
Site gives a 500 Internal server error which is caused by an “End of script output before headers: index.php”.
Deactivating Jetpack stopped the problem, reactivating it caused it again.
Changing to PHP 5.6.31 fixed the issue, so there must be an incompatibility problem.
