URL.com/product-category/cheap
I’m using the plugin Premmerce Permalink Manager for WooCommerce that does the job
but I rather not use the plugin if the setting could be changed on WordPress Permalink Settings
This is how I want it
https://www.URL.co.uk/category
]]>FYI: Currently, my website is using the .php extension for pages, but, I would like to change it to no extension.
Thank you for your time.
Sincerely,
DeWayne
I’ve been setting up my store for a while (it being my first WC site), and I have just noticed something which is very confusing and I don’t understand why it is the case.
In WP Settings > Permalinks, WP allows me to type in a ‘Product category base’, which I believe just defaults to ‘product-category’.
However, WP also allows me to set a product URL base. Currently, that is set on ‘custom base’ with /shop/%product_cat%/ as the entry. I cannot recall whether this is the default option, or whether I tinkered with this for some reason ages ago.
The ability to make them different means that if someone visited a product, and wanted to get a category manually, or discern the product category from the URL, they would be wrong and get a 404 error.
For example, go to prouct:
site.com/shop/category-name/product-name
If someone wishes to discern the category url and go there, they will try:
site.com/shop/category-name/
And they would get a 404 error, because the working url structure is different:
site.com/product-category/category-name/
Could someone experienced with WC please explain to me why anyone would want an inbuilt ability to create inconsistent URLs? I would honestly very much appreciate know the reasoning.
What is best practice?
Ultimately I’d just want:
shop.com/category-name/product-name
or
shop.com/shop/category-name/product-name
Is there a best practice for this? I am utterly confused.
Another thing: If I change the custom base and remove the ‘shop’ part, that is going to wreak havoc with all my product links. Can someone please also recommend the best way to handle bulk re-directs within WP/WC without dealing with each link individually? ie. every product that once had ‘shop’ as the base, should now redirect to the url without ‘shop’, etc?
Much appreciated.
]]>1st thing firs. I decided to create my own website 48h ago. Bought a domain, hosting, instaled a theme, started to read a lot and i’ve been able to create something quite quick. So please be gentle
I do have a lot to learn and modify but one thing that I can’t find on google is how to change my URL.
homepage: https://credintamea.ro/wp/ (i know, that wp shouldn’t be there, my providers will fix it for me so if you can’t access it when you read it, just don’t put /wp at the end)
When I click on a category for the menu the URL looks like this :https://credintamea.ro/wp/category/viata-crestina/ – i don’t whant that category there.
…and when i click on an article the URL looks like this https://credintamea.ro/wp/2020/05/10/icoane-facatoare-de-minuni/
I tried to change some things in Permalink Settings but all I managed to do it to make the cateogry URL to look like should be but i can’t access any articles
If I set them to Post Name https://backinbalance.nz/sample-post/ they go to 404 page not found.
If I set them to Numeric https://backinbalance.nz/archives/123 they seem to work as Post Name. https://backinbalance.nz/sample-page
I have tried everything I can find deleting and reinstalling numerous times … deleting the contents of the .htaccess file … pasting new contents … inactivating all the plugins … using default theme … I can’t think of anything I have not tried that I have found in the forums … I am reluctant to leaving it as this fudge as I suspect once I have built the site something will stop working … I just can’t seem to get the thing to work.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
]]>Then I tried it on a site which I moved from a subfolder to the root folder. I got database connection errors and had to change the ‘post name’ links (in the wp permalink settings) to ‘plain’ links.
As the 404 page setting of Thesis does not work I tried 404page. I can choose the page in the 404page option panel. But the page does not appear. Just the default server message.
Q: Does the 404page plugin not work if the page is a ‘plain’ link?

Thank you so much for your attention. All the best, Connie
