Hi All,

I have the following message that has appeared on my Dashbaord:

User role must be set to Author for correct user permissions to apply!
Settings>General>New User Default Role> SET TO “Author”
Please also check your current user roles

However, when I go to Settings>General, there is no ‘New User Default Role’ on my page…. I have looked at the ‘Documentation on General Settings’ and can see in the example screenshots that the ‘New User Default Role’ exists, it’s just not visible on my page…. does anyone know how to make this visible on my screen?

Contact Form 7 and New User Default Role

Hi,

I don’t want Contact Form 7 plugin to appear in the left panel of the dashboard section while changing the New User Default Role to anything other than the Administrator.

Kindly let me know how to go about it. Do I need to modify any of the WP files?

inactive vs blocked in New User Default Role

Hi all,

I have been waiting for a long long time for a way to put new registrants into a waiting mode. This is bcs too many spammers and such are finding their way into WP. I now noticed two new User Default Roles, inactive and blocked. I suspect “blocked” is simply not allowed. But I am hoping INACTIVE means they will be awaiting permission? does that make sense?

Hi. I’m running the last version of WordPress before the 3.0 update. I’ve created a website with mostly static pages and then a number of related articles that I would like people to be able to comment on. I set it up so that people registering would be “contributors.” I hope that’s correct if I want people to be able to write and edit their own posts.

When I tried creating a test account and logged in, however, I saw that I could edit other peoples’ posts or delete them; which I wanted only myself as “admin” to be able to do. Any advice please?

Hi all,
Just lately I had a few emails from WordPress telling me that a new user has registered on my blog Internet Marketing Advice.
Now I know that I have set Membership as “anyone can register” in my general settings, and the “new user default role” is set as subscriber. But to be honest, I don’t have a clue what that actually does, and how somebody does subscribe to my blog to become a subscriber. Should I just delete these subscribers? What can they do? Wouldn’t it be much better if they signed up through my AWeber subscriber form on the blog?
I am just a little confused and worried that I might have settings here which are not good for my blog.
