This plugin is just great – I have built other websites previously and have been pleased with the sitemap and robots.txt that I have used – however, thought I would try this one, and I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of software you guys had put into the plugin, and – that it was easily embedded into google analytics with the sitemap being on the header of every page – and I didn’t have to utilise my brainpower at all – everything was easypeasy and I now have a website, up there with google analytics and loads more and a really details robots.text which I have never used before. So thanks for all the hard work you guys have put into this, and may I take this opportunity of wishing you all at better-robots=txt a very happy and prosperous New Year!! Thanks again – Chrissy

Strange blocking behavior w/r/t msn.com

Hi! I have the latest versions of WordPress and wordFence. This morning I noticed something very odd. Traffic from this host:

msnbot-157-55-39-241.search.msn.com was being blocked for this reason:

Redmond, United States was blocked for Accessed a banned URL.

However, hits from this host:

msnbot-40-77-167-41.search.msn.com (Boydton, United States) were not blocked.

Has anyone else seen this? Any ideas why this might happen?

Seems that the past few days have seen an increase in “Exceeded the maximum number of page requests per minute for humans.” for MSN search bots. Have they increased the number of servers or something?

There are many bots from msn.com server. But my webpage [user-online] plugin and Google Analytics could not recognize these bots as bots.

I am seeing bots from msn.com sever, but they are display as “guest” not “bot”. Example:

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64) AppleWebKit/534+ (KHTML, like Gecko) BingPreview/1.0b
Host: (msn.com) msnbot-65-55-217-219.search.msn.com

Can you help me?

I’d like to have categories clickable instead of just posts. And also give each category title its own colored background for the title. And then also have ad space for below the header and above the footer.

MSN and other bots bringing site down

Hi everyone,

MSN bot (and to a smaller extent, google bot) have been crawling my site for the last week every day between 10AM and 3PM PST. The # of requests coming from MSN bot makes the # of requests to my site spike 300% – 400% and my server cannot handle it and it’ll eventually cause me to get a lot of intermittent ERROR CONNECTING TO DATABASE until after it stops hammering my site. Additionally, a lot of the requests are trying to hit an erroneous URL (a link to a post with an extra ” at the end of the URL which is invalid) which is causing a bunch of 404 errors in my logs.

I guess my questions at this time are:

– Does anyone have any ideas about or solutions to why MSN is crawling like this, and if there’s anything I can do to alleviate the problem? Any similar experiences?
– Where does this erroneous URL come from? Does MSN / Bing use some kind of sitemap file where they might be getting a bad URL?

So far, I’ve tried adding a “crawl-delay: 1” parameter to my robots.txt and it hasn’t seemed to help much (at least not yet).

Does anyone have any similar experiences or any advice?

[Plugin: Google XML Sitemaps] automatically sitemap update doesn’t work

Since Google XML Sitemaps v3.2.2 and WP v2.9 the sitemap plugin does not automatically my sitemaps when i publish a post. It just says:

Your sitemap is being refreshed at the moment. Depending on your blog size this might take some time! Due to limitations of the WordPress scheduler, it might take another 60 seconds until the build process is actually started.

Manual sitemap update works just fine.

My Yahoo and Bing sitemap meta tags dissappears

Please help!!!
I will insert my sitemap meta tags from Yahoo and bing, then soon after i get my site verified with Bing and Yahoo the meta tag has been written out of the script. i am not sure but I thiink this causing my site to bounce up and down and sometimes not show up at all.
