]]>We are in process of migrating from our old domain to new domain and everything has been set except one thing which i am not sure how best can be handled.
The old domain is running from last few years and have quite good in search hits and indexing and we want to preserve as much as possible when it comes to SEO and search engine visibility.
Since Database is same so this means if the article in the old domain is at
www.olddomain.com/category/my-article it will be at this location in new domain
www.newdomain.com/category/my-article
i know about that we can set 301 redirect in the .htacces file but not sure how to do this
1. Do i need to have mapping of each individual old URL to its equivalent new URL
or only a single 301 redirect will be ok.Is there any other way to achieve this in the word-press.
any help in this regard will be helpful
]]>– I’d like to use one of these plugins Redirection or Simple 301 redirect
– Install WordPress in subdirectory but Display the url of the root with this Giving_WordPress_Its_Own_Directory
Will it work?
Thanks
]]>Currently I created a site with a different name from the site I want to replace so I can create the new site without affecting the existing site. I was advised to go ahead and do this and then when the time is right:
1. Change the nameserver of the old website to the nameserver of the new host.
2. I’ll add on the original website name as an addon/parked domain name
3. Then finally I will change the site configuration in the backend dashboard of wordpress under General Settings to be the name of the domain of the original site.
The host support said this would be a seamless transition and won’t affect the sites ranking in google… is this correct? Or is there a better approach?
Not too far into the creation of the new site yet so I just want to make sure before I continue to move forward that there isn’t a better / easier way to do this.
Thanks in advance.
