Is it OK to use a number in a media library title to distinguish media items.

Throughout my body of work there might be seven drawings (figures) of very similar subjects.

Sailing ship five mast ovoid sail
Sailing ship four mast sloping sail
Sailing ship four mast separated sail
Sailing ship four mast short sail
Sailing ship five mast uneven sail
Sailing ship four mast triangular sail
Sailing ship three mast pointy sail

But it can become challenging using descriptors to differentiate the different figures, and it’s possible another ‘Sailing ship five mast ovoid sail’ could come along.

So I thought about using a reference for the page which the figure belongs to, for example the first one in the list above belongs to page ‘0080’, a scan of line art which also contains other unrelated drawings:

Sailing ship five mast 0080-1

If there’s another sailing ship on the same page:

Sailing ship five mast 0080-2

If there’s a sailing ship on a different page:

Sailing ship five mast 0127-1

This would seem better as I can use a shorter name then the number. My file names are the same so I would still use a reasonable number of descriptive words for SEO, but would not have the job of absolutely distinguishing the figures apart.

All this stems from the fact I thought that there should not be two or more media library titles with an identical name.

I wanted to avoid number identifiers originally to avoid general uncertainty with diverging away from pure text. For example I make use of the attachment page and the media title is displayed there too, which would also display numbers if I use this method. This makes it read a bit technical and doesn’t seem ideal, but maybe it’s in fact alright.

Would using the numbers detract in any way or cause a problem?

Update meta tag problem Version 4.1.9

Hi, I use your AIOSEO since years. Unfortunatelly after update to version 4.1.9 I am not able to edit/modify Media Title nor Meta Description of uploaded media files. It works OK with version 4.1.8, but doesn’t work in versions 4.1.9 nor 4.1.10. All existing descriptions are “frozen” as they were before update.
Any recommendations?

Media titles not displaying in gallery

Hi,

I tried to search to see if this has been addressed, but I could not find anything.

I recently noticed, while working on updating my site, that when viewing images within galleries on my website, that the media title no longer displays. The titles to my artworks are important, so I’d like to find a way to have these display with each image again.

I am using the WPfolio Two theme and use the JQuery Lightbox plugin for displaying my galleries. The titles used to show just fine when viewing a gallery, but at some point something happened. I’ve updated all my plugins so I am a bit lost right now as to what to do.

I appreciate any help you can provide.

WP 3.5 Media not accepting some characters

I don’t know if I am the first to face this.
Back in WP 3.4 I guess we had the HTML feature enabled in caption. Now, in WP 3.5 whenever I try to add some caption like

We execute $sudo cat /etc/group

It fails. I have checked with firebug and it seems for some strange reason, when the POST req is sent to ajax-admin.php, it comes up with 404 not found. Now, removing the characters /, >, < solves the issue. It is me anything doing wrong or is it a bug from WP or my host? Any ideas?

media uploader/ edit window mismatch

The media uploader automatically puts an image’s file name in the Title box. But if you click the edit button on an image in the Visual editor, it shows an empty Title box. And if you open the image from the Edit Media panel via the Media Library, it doesn’t even have a Title box at all. Would be helpful if these were consistent. Pretty confusing as it is, and I’m not sure whether I should bother putting a title on an image or not.

Using filename instead of TIFF metadatas at upload

Since a recent upgrade of WordPress, it uses the TIFF description field of the JPEG images as the media title instead of the filename, as it used to do.

What can I do about it ?
