Problem summary:
I’ve sent a abandon cart email to my users. In the email there is a short code [product.cart] which list the cart details.
The cart listing shows find but when click on the product in the cart listing, it brought me to an invalid page something like this: https://url8417.[mydomain].com/ls/click?upn=oo2GDDAOWPfyNsqtFZovatpRtW8nQQqOhpXzGCZvvD5AtPPf1aA2sg34X-2F3FJRA49H182LXPCuYK9enG2i3hFmWiWKo5sGMcvPpRxqK0qMBJQKfI5Z3OD7YUGC7LBFXtL88nV61V3fiKOfh-2FH3UsM9A3jjRmuP3RL6JH6I3qVZmGR3vEmcBL08suNlat1xAe2CoG_APjdKg32i75KQyAMA37LswJmdPjWVfBKOsdDCAwFUCU-2BudJ4-2Fiw66OcQTYnDJHFsKhjDDJ10pwEjFMGp1FgPAXBxiYa4A8SVYt3W4zhCuNXxNyMU8SJYUrxnjyrCl9RBn-2B4qEG2IEepCPkZqjpyHFzzA-2Fym4Dw2wCVCn9TkmGNloY5WWjwW04JzSHgijTR0GEJylNh3EBmZiCqeQmZ9XR1stc2Z-2FRNYnOL9BUKC2IyE-3D
Where can I make sure the link is redirected to the proper product details?
Solution:
The issue is due to Sendgrid’s Link Branding feature, which rewrites the links in their transactional emails for link tracking. If the link is broken, the reason is likely because you accidentally deleted the CNAME records that Sendgrid needs to get it to work. To fix this, login to Sendgrid > Sender Authentication > Scroll down to Link Branding > Click into your domain, grab the CNAME records, and reinsert it into your DNS records. Should work after that.
]]>Because it uses JS window.open this plugin breaks outbound link tracking in Google Analytics 4 or when very popular plugins like Monster Insights are used for Google Analytics integration and outbound link tracking. I also saw another thread by a user mentioning that their Adsense earnings were negatively impacted through use of this plugin and this I imagine is almost certainly the cause because it will be interfering with adsense click tracking.
This either needs to be fixed or at least a disclaimer has to be added to the plugin description so that users are informed that this happens. Because right now the plugin is not living up to being SEO friendly because of this.
For Google Analytics one could in theory add plugin setttings to add onclick=”” event tracking parameters to links, so that they can still be tracked in Google Analytics even if this plugin is used. But for other things like Adsense I don’t know how you would get around this.
Better to my mind to give the users of this plugin an option to either use window.open or target=”_blank” as the methodology for opening external links and then educate them about the upsides and downsides of each option, i.e. XHTML compliance vs click tracking issues.
]]>It also have some great features like rotation and conditions. Have multiple different kind of redirects, make links no-follow, sponsored, and many other nice features.
It gives you more info than most other wp link trackers if you set it to in settings, like browser and os.
]]>Recent install using the following:
MailPoet Free version: 3.64.0
MailPoet Premium version: 3.64.0
The problem is with link tracking, it’s turned on and if I use a template but create our own bcontent the links and button clicks are not tracked via Outlook 365, the social footer links are though.
If I view the email in a browser all links are clicked.
I could understand if O365 was blocking all the tracking but it is only blocking the new links I create, it tracks the footer social links – am I missing something?
TIA
Phil
]]>Please consider adding a fix for this. I don’t want to have to disable link tracking just so that anchor links can work, but that is my only solution for now!
]]>https://zoom.us/j/12345 (not the real link)
In the email that is sent out, the link target is replaced with:
https://joyfulliving.us/?mailpoet_router&endpoint=track&action=click&data=WyIxIiwiMTZiYzYyIiwiNTMiLCJhMDZkMDZlYWI3M2UiLGZ12345 (not the real link)
When the user clicks on the link in the email, they are sent to the mailpoet_router link above and then forwarded to Zoom.
This introduces an extra unnecessary step, probably violating privacy too, as this email is for a mental health support group Zoom session.
Questions:
1a) Can I turn off link tracking just by itself, preferably for a specific email? In this particular email, I want the users to just click on the link and go straight to the site.
1b) If (1a) is not possible, can I turn off link tracking temporarily, while keeping Open tracking on?
2) Where is the link tracking info stored? Does it find its way into the hands of Google or other notorious privacy violators?
How does the tracking of opening emails work? Is it based on tracking via images? Because if that’s the case people who have the automatically opening image disabled won’t be tracked. I want to delete all people who have subscribed but never view the emails.
