Hi, I’m trying to promote some content in japanese using Yoast but word count doesn’t work since there is no almost blank spaces in japanese writting.
Also, can’t use japanese characters in slug since it changes to something like this:

I produce posts in Japanese. The plugin often tells me that my posts have too few words for SEO purposes. The thing is, that unlike languages that use alphabets (English, Russian, Greek etc.), languages written in Chinese characters such as Japanese don’t count words through space and punctuation delimiters, since spaces don’t traditionally exist in Chinese-based writing. Instead, length of text is counted in number of characters in the text, since it is often debatable what constitutes a “word” in a string of Japanese text. The plugin however, doesn’t recognize that character counts are what is used and tells me that I have only a tiny number of words, because it counts an entire string of Chinese characters as a single word.

Is there any way that the Yoast plugin can produce a word count using CJK characters?

Hi,
I’m currently using the latest version of Twenty Seventeen on my own server and would like to be able to use Japanese (kanji) alongside English in my articles.

When I do this the kanji will change to ??? before I’m even out of the editor. On a preview they also display as ???.

I’m certain I’ve seen other blogs using both Kanji and English side by side but I cannot find a solution anywhere. (I think the sites doing it are wordpress.com)

Any thoughts appreciated,

First of all I would like to thank you for the amazing plugin you have! Thank you for the effort and support.

I have created a site with 4 different languages (using WMPL): English, Japanese, Chinese Simplified (Chinese) and Chinese traditional (Taiwanese).

Each language has its own Contact Form. They have no problem when I view the site using Safari or Firefox.

However when I see the site using Chrome (Version 49.0.2623.110) it gives me problems when I try to write something in Japanese (all contact forms).

If I try to write やまだ, for instance, the conversion field will show up with suggestions such as: やまだ or 山田。If I press the space bar to get more suggestions, the やまだ (written in the field) will become invisible/ turn to white. The writer can not see what he is writing during change of the character.

Any idea of why is this happening?

I am currently using the Text Hover plugin in my kanji-learning website and it is very close to being just what I need. It provides beginners with on-the-fly recognition of all the kanji being discussed.

I have written a post showing how it works here:

At the moment, no hover is provided for kanji that appear at the end of a line, and no hover is provided for kanji that appear next to html tags, such as kanji.

I probably only need to modify the regex expression within the php code, but I have tried a couple of things with no luck so far.

for Latin (alphabet) not a problem appears 55 words, but all words appears to Kanji.

Is there a solution to it in wordpress coding?

Confirmation on japanese fonts issue

Hey guys.

Well, as many users have before, I’m currently facing issues with WordPress and japanese characters. Whatever I type gets converted into question marks when I submit the post.

User Claire said this in a post I’ve found when searching for solutions:

I can’t remember where I found it now, but I had to remove these lines from the config file.

The problem was due to Fantastico.

I did indeed use Fantastico to install WP. So, can I really go on and do this procedure? Will this really solve the issue?

Also, where is this config file?

Kanji turns into question marks in the blog title

When I installed the blog, I used these kanji as the title for my blog “銀の道”. Everything worked fine, I imported my previous blog from WordPress.com so I could continue it and installed a theme. Everything was still fine, until I went to the general settings to update the timezone, I only adjusted the time setting, but when I saved it, I found out that my pretty title had been turned into three question marks.

It worked fine before so why would that kind of thing happen to it now? I can’t even change General Settings without being in fear of losing my blog title? Rewriting that title has no effect, it turns into question marks again.

Every setting that I have looked is in UTF-8 in the blog. So, would it be possible to change that title manually in some file? Then I wouldn’t touch General Settings again. Or, is there a way to make WordPress accept those Kanji without forcing them to question marks?

How to type in Japanese?

Hello there, I’ve been using www.remarpro.com for quite time. I’m using the english edition, and it seems doesn’t support japanese encoding. All hiragana/katakana/kanji you wrote eventually become “????” when displayed in the blog.

I wonder if I need to tweak something for this to work? Thanks in advance.

Kanji problem in “Weblog title”

My blog is titled “世論 What Japan Thinks”; in version 1.5 of WordPress, it would crash if I entered that title, so I instead used a title of “世論 What Japan Thinks”.

However, when I recently upgraded to v2.1, the installation process automatically converted the Unicode entities to kanji. All very good, but in quite a few places, including emailed comments (and MS Live search engine results) I get corrupted characters (mojibake) like this:

[??–è?– What Japan Thinks] Comment:…

I don’t want to drop the kanji, so I think this needs to be fixed.

I might find a workaround through literal text in OptimalTitle for the time being.
