It’s WordPress 3.5 on IIS (Windows Server 2008).
Other forums I’ve checked always say to check the file permissions, so I ran the PHP get_current_user() function. It says the file owner is IUSR. This user does not have write privileges. I tried temporarily giving this user the write privilege and using the PHP error_log function, but the result was the same–permission still denied.
What about file permissions in PHP or IIS am I missing?
]]>I have installed w3 total cache plugin, Version 0.9.4 on WP 3.9.1.
When i try to save the configuration it give following error.
Can’t change configuration:…… Can’t create folder /wp-content/cache/tmp
I am using windows platform with IIS 7.5. Can anyone explain to which user & folder permission to be set to fix above issue.
regards,

]]>I changed folder permissions for C://Windows/Temp and also redirected to a different temp upload folder in php.ini and changed permissions for that. And then changed them for wp-content/uploads.
IUSR and IIS_IUSRS both have read/write capabilities in every folder. But whenever I upload media, the permissions of that file are still read-only for IIS_IUSRS. The rule isn’t inheriting properly.
Any advice?
…and no, I can’t switch to Linux. Trust me, I’d love to, but it’s against my company’s policy.
]]>I’ve tried to solve this query several times before, but never really got anywhere. I’m in the process of swapping over to a Win 2012 IIS 8 server & the question has popped up again & I’d love to resolve it, so here goes:
Unless I give IUSR write permission to the content & includes folders, then I cannot upload stuff or install plugins, ditto the entire site directory in wwwroot when I come to upgrading the site.
I usually end up just giving iusr write access to the entire site as it saves any problems for customers who are trying to administer their sites.
I run regular backups (once per day) so have some disaster recovery in place, but I’ve never worked out whether or not this is 100% secure. I don’t want a client to have to ring up each time they want to upgrade their site, but similarly I wanted to check that this is the correct way to go about doing things?
]]>Everything seems to function correctly, except that when I go to upgrade WordPress, it asks for FTP details. So I gave IUSR modify permissions for the sites folder & it seems to resolve the problem.
However, I’m not sure whether or not I’ve opened a security issue?
Any thoughts?
