I’m back working on my site after an interval to help my Dad. It’s posted, finally, at worldwar2database.com. The work I did last summer is now a little bit moot as Attachment Pages are off by default in WP 6.4, but that probably wasn’t a great plan any way.
I’m working on your suggestion to use XMP because it has longer character length for captions. I got the XMP title, caption and description fields to merge, and I have fields for other values in ITPC, but I’m stuck on keywords. The proper keywords that relate to my site only show up in xmp:photoshop.Category
unfortunately. The other keywords are incorrect, and I can’t figure out in EXIFTool how to get the Photoshop Keywords column to copy into the other columns. Anyway when I use any combination of XMP template or direct call in Att. Categories, I either get nothing or the text “[xmp:photoshop.Category]”
I’m sure I’ve got the code wrong. Right now it’s:
template:([xmp:photoshop.Category])
Thank you so much!
Amazingly resilient coding. Very little has been changed in the last eight years in MMWW yet still MMWW runs reliably.
]]>Hi,
I’m moving from Drupal 7 to WordPress, because Drupal 10 is so complicated with requiring command line interfaces and I’m just a History Teacher, not a software engineer. So VERY new to both WordPress and MLA. I’m finding both a little overwhelming and I have just two months to master both and get my site back up in time for the Fall classes.
I have these 925+ photos with IPTC/EXIF data I entered in Adobe Photoshop. I created custom fields in MLA. But when I import images, just the title and caption populate, not any of the custom fields (copyright, city, state, country, credit, source, etc.) show up in WordPress Media Library.
I read the MLA documentation but it’s very complicated with all the options. What can I do to get the IPTC/EXIF data to show up in Media Library, and then over to a post with the image please? I *think* MLA can do this but I’m not sure how. Thanks so much!
Within the gallery display, Exif and IPTC data does show as part of ‘Info’ button. It is the downloading/saving process that **appears** to strip the information from the image.
—> Other website images used on Pages and in Posts, when saved to a user’s desktop **do** include the original Exif and IPTC data.
Of concern is that when images from another individual/organization are used ‘with permission,’ part of that agreement is to credit the original source, photographer, and their description.
Any thoughts appreciated.

]]>I tried to click map IPTC on individual images. Nothing changes. None of the fields in WordPress change at all; description, caption, alt, etc are all still blank.
If I open an individual image in the media library, there’s even IPTC data in the Attachment Metadata field.
What gives? Have I misunderstood this plugin or something? Does this plugin just not change WordPress image metadata? Is there some other plugin that does?
Edit: I also uploaded one of my jpg files to https://www.imgonline.com.ua/eng/ and the IPTC came through just fine there.
]]>The media **Bulk actions** … **Edit** screen has options for **Map IPTC/EXIF metadata** and **Map Custom Field metadata**. I have not yet found a clear option for executing a single **Standard field mapping Rule** against the selected assets from the search / filter results. Is this possible from the admin UI?
