Cannot select database

Trying to install WordPress on my local computer using WAMPServer. I cannot provide a link because the site is on my computer, not on my hosting company’s server.

I set up the local folder to contain WordPress files then created the virtual host in WAMPServer and set up the database using PHP MyAdmin. When setting up the database, I made sure to select “MariaDB rather than MySQL. After doing these steps, I went back to WAMP, selected Your virtualhosts –>easylivinghomeservices.test and started the WP install.

I get the following error:

Cannot select database The database server could be connected to (which means your username and password is okay) but the?database could not be selected.

I used the username “root” with no password as I have done in the past. The message indicates that doing this is not the issue.

I can log into the database through PHP MyAdmin, There isn’t anything there because the WP install won’t run. Last time I set up a local WP site, WordPress populated the database as part of the install process. Is the process different when using MariaDB? I have never used MariaDB before but couldn’t find any information on using it as my database when installing WordPress.

Again, I made sure to select MariaDB when I added the database in PHP MyAdmin.

I have set up local sites many times without a problem. I have always used MySQL for the database but am using MariaDB for this site as this is the database that is used by the hosting company. (I don’t want to run into issues because I used MySQL locally and will have to use MariaDB when the site goes live.)

Is the cause of my problem the fact I used PHP MyAdmin instead of something else?

should we install wordpress on subdomain?

Manual Update to WordPress

I had to manually update WordPress to 5.5 after a failed auto update attempt.
Everything seems ok after I disabled one plugin.
However, there is an upgrade folder in the wp-content folder.
Should I now delete this?
I have already updated the database.

Hello all, I am following a Lynda.com course to be trained on WordPress and how to install and configure MAMP (5.5) and WordPress. Everything has run smoothly until now, however, I have difficulties with finding the setup page for WP. The course tells me to write: “https://localhost/wp-admin/setup-config.php” but nothing happens. As I am a beginner any clear guidance would be helpful. Many thanks in advance!

Hi,

I am having trouble setting up a new wordpress site.

All I did was:
1. upload wordpress 5.2.2 files (danish language) to the server
2. go to the URL…
And then it redirected to /wp-admin/setup-config.php which shows the following message: “The site is experiencing technical difficulties.”

If I try to setup a manual wp-config file, the result is a Fatal error…:

Installing WordPress without cPanel

I am a Newbie and have developed my WP site on localhost and am almost ready to upload to my hosted domain. My host does not provide a cpanel. Searching for “installing without cpanel” brings up much information about cpanel installation which, obviously, is not helpful. I have an ftp program that I am comfortable using. I have WP Duplicator and when I create a package get notice on size 725mb but build anyway. Win 10 OS and have used Xampp on localhost; Astra Pro theme; plugins are: Elementor, WooCommerce with Restrict Country, Product Sort, Blocks, Services; Yoast SEO.
I would appreciate if someone could tell me simplest way of uploading my site without a cpanel. And I recently saw a note NOT to install WP if you are using Duplicator to upload your site. So much of what I find seems to conflict with each other. You will have my undying gratitude if you can provide any assistance.

I feel like a complete newbie in this case. I have done other sites and been running this one for a while but I just do not understand what I am reading for this issue. I have never had to install it on my computer for a wordpress existing site, it is nothing like what I have done.

We have an existing www.remarpro.com site, hosted at laughing squid.
I did not create the site and have previously done all my editing online using the dashboard and admin login.
The board wants a complete overhaul to the site now, so I need a sandbox to test a new theme and create the site.

I have read a lot of instructions and answers and understand some things but I am having trouble connecting it to my issue. I am not creating a new site. I do not want to change hosts. I have never installed it on this new computer. and for after I get the sandbox working (assuming I do.) I do not see how to upload the pages back to the site.

I am uncertain I am even asking the right question since I really am at a loss here but:

I have the install an existing site instructions here but they talk about changing host…how does that apply in my case? I have a host but do not work from their site.
How do I put the files in the website if I do get it installed? There is no upload page section in the WP admin login dashboard.
Would I be better getting something like pressable or just using the www.remarpro.com download and the XAMPP?

What am I not asking that would give me the missing link. I know there is just something I am missing that this should make sense but I am lost.

I have domain and hosting account.On my domain there is HTML website.Now i want to remove HTML website and install wordpress on it.I have already installed wordpress on that domain and it was successfully installed but site keeps on showing old HTML website.I couldn’t find where those HTML files are located in c panel because it was developed by someone else.I want to remove old HTML and install wordpress on it.Please please help.
