I am using word press on my site. I had a previous site with a substantial blog on it. I just downloaded Blogger Importer to my site. When I ran it, it says that there are no blogs to import. Well, there are, I went back and looked at them again, and there they are bigger than life.
So, in very easy to understand steps, meaning don’t get technical on me; how do i import them to my site.
My site is www.alpineshrimp.com
the blogs are under
https://www.alpineshrimp.com/wp-admin/edit.php
]]>Thanks!
]]>The wordpress importer wont accept these files. Here is the email of explanation I got from the persons other web designer
“I used transmit which is a mac FTP program to move the files and I used your hosts database tool to export the database. I then used Transmit to upload it to our server and PHP admin to upload the database. “
Here is a link to a screenshot of the files that I have (https://tinypic.com/r/2i0gevd/8).
Here is a link to the site that I have to import them to (https://79.170.44.107/robinsonhambro.com/wp/)
Could someone please point me in the right direction of how to solve this issue.
Thanks!
]]>We have a new WP site in progress here:
https://www.otionsoap.com/DRAFT/
There is a link called “Blog” that, for now, simply links to the existing blog (https://www.otionsoap.com/blog/).
My plan is to export the content of that blog, and then, in the NEW WP site, IMPORT that XML file so that it falls into the layout of the new theme. So, ultimately, when one clicks “blog” they will see the content on the old blog, but in this new theme layout.
Does this sound right? I feel like there is something missing. Maybe I need to create a new directory for the XML import?
Thanks for any advice!
]]>And then created a website. In order to MERGE the blog into the website, we exported the blog contents, and then imported the XML file into the website. This appeared to work well, and if you click “Blog” , everything from the above Blog is there.

Two Glitches:
1. Not seeing a way to EDIT the menu or change out the header image for the blog now that it’s been imported into the website
2. from within the website, if you go to the blog, one link within the blog menu (about this blog) still displays the blog’s old, separate URL. Can’t fathom why this one link did not turn out properly like all the others did. Eventually, we will phase out that separate URL — which again makes me wonder – how to edit the menu or the header images on the blog now that it’s been imported into the website. We can’t close down the blog until we have this figured out!?
Maybe I’m missing something, or doing this in a complicated way. Any suggestions are desperately needed. Thank you!

]]>I’ve retrieved these files from an other blog (french blog Overblog) so I now have xml files.
Where and how to I do so now. It used to be very simple… maybe I’m just not seeing where to go…
Thanks in advance
]]>When I backed up the original blog (under Tools), it had
as the options available. So I made a copy of the blog information using the export option and one using the backup option.
When I went to the new domain with a fresh installation of WordPress, it only had the options of import and export (under Tools),without the backup option. I had planned on using the backup file to restore it, otherwise if I don’t, it probably won’t look exactly like my current blog. I thought this had to do with WordPress but is it more to do with the theme installed and theme does not have the Backup option?
Does anybody know what I can do without the backup option so that I can still transfer my blog to the new domain and have it look like the original blog?
If I go through MyPHPadmin, how do I find out for sure which of the databases belongs to my new domain? When I click on MyPHPadmin and go to databases, it gives me a list of databases numbered wrdp1 through wrdp12. How do I find out which database goes to which website/blog? I’m worried that if I pick the wrong database to restore that it will erase the wrong website and install the files making the changes irreversible.
These are the names of the files that I have:
abc.wordpress.2012-09-08 – Export option – XML Document
abc_wrdp5_wp_20120908_055.sql – Backup option – SQL File
Sorry about the long post and thanks in advance for the help. It is much appreciated! If you have any questions I will reply ASAP.
