i did a trial run of installing WP on domain.com/sub/folder and it works fine, but now i’m wondering how to hook it up when we go live and replace the existing top level site?
current homepage is domain.com/index.php but the WP default is domain.com/SUB/index.php
i guess we’re best with it in the /public_html/ top level, but what’s the best way to manage that when the time comes?
i’m familiar with using .htaccess to redirect homepage if that helps?
or maybe this
require DIR . ‘/SUB/wp-blog-header.php’;

be my public page .. but I don’t know how I asked a couple ppl at site ground hosting in tech dept. they said they don’t know.. I tried to move wordpress from subdomain to root but that became far above my pay grade … not sure what to do
Anything in posts tables easily changes with a find and replace. Try that with ANYTHING in the options (and themes and widgets are both using this) and it breaks the widget. It goes POOF and reverts to default. There seems no way short of manually recreating everything to make them switch the path address.
This is infuriating on a development level. HOW do you switch these things without breaking them? And if you can’t is there some master list out there to warn people? Because I will gladly stop using any and all widgets, plugins and themes that refuse to let me use an IP for development and then switch it.
]]>Currently I am creating a WP site on a temporary url provided by the hosting company. The actual domain will be pointed once the site is completed. We plan on using FooGallery for our image galleries. I haven’t installed it yet.
My question is, if the plugin is installed and galleries are created while the site is using the temporary url, what is the procedure for updating anything associated with Foogallery once the domain is pointed? I would assume that any database associated with Foogallery would need to be updated.
Thanks

]]>This is a great plugin, and as many others have said, it will be magical once the function of copying the changes from the staging site to the live site is introduced. But, in the mean time, would you please write a step-by-step instruction of how you would go about to push a staging site to the live site. And please make it stick to the top of the support feed if possible. I realize you can’t take responsibility for if things get messed up on our end, but a text where you describe the different steps would really make my day better!
I’ve searched through the support feed and found some instructions, like copying all the files to the live site, and then using WP migrate to copy the database. My problem is that nothing seems to happen when I do this. Even though I’ve copied all the files back to the live site and migrated the database with WP migrate, the live site remains looking just like before (it doesn’t even use the new theme). There has to be something more that I should do, and as we seem to be a few people having a difficult time moving from staging site to live site, such a step-by-step description would be of great help!
Thanks!

. When the site goes live, the client will be pointing their existing domain name at my IP address.
When they do this, the WP installation will no longer be at theirdomain.mydomain.com
, but rather theirdomain.com
, and the installation folder will remain the same, as a separate installation from my main site.
How will I make this work without breaking the site beyond repair? I’m studying the database, and it looks like the URL location is used many times throughout multiple tables.

]]>So I have a website hosted and built on iPower but I would like to redesign it using wordpress as the web builder. I understand I have to install WordPress via ipower, as they will remain my server, and in the process select the domain name that they are already hosting for us to link to the new website.
Is it at this point that the old version of the website will disappear? If avoidable, I don’t really want to have the website looking a mess for a day while I figure out my way around WordPress. Can the old ipower-built site remain live after I’ve installed www.remarpro.com via the server?
I hope the question makes sense. Please excuse my massive knowledge gap in this area.
Many thanks.
